Whipp’d Cakery — Restaurant in Staunton

I’ve driven through the intersection of New and Greenville many times and never realized a bakery was there until two weeks ago. Today, I finally made a purposeful stop in and was not disappointed. Given that most bakeries don’t have much of a selection later in the day, I called first and Lauren went through what was left; lots of options. I ordered a dozen mini-cupcakes just to have a sampling (Pistachio, Almond, Nutella, Strawberry, Marble, Vanilla on Vanilla, and Chocolate on Vanilla). I’m normally not a huge fan of buttercream because of the sweetness but this recipe was perfect! Not too sweet and the texture was smooth and airy. My favorite was the Chocolate on Vanilla. While in town visiting family for my boyfriends birthday, we stopped in here to get cupcakes and a cake they had ordered for pick up. First - everything that she makes is BEAUTIFUL from the icing & design, to the moist cake inside... I was really blown away. The red velvet cake was rich and the cream cheese icing was perfect. Second - I had THE BEST carrot cake cupcake while inside the shop and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it randomly since. If you go in and she has one, definitely try it! Lastly - the bakery itself is so cute and I love how it has been decorated/taken care of! A really wonderful bakery that I hope to go back to one day soon! 10/10...

Update: We tried the other 4, and 2 of them tastes like some sugar was added. Less sugar in the buttercream is a great idea (responding to Lauren) but we couldn't taste any sugar in the strawberry frosting, it literally tastes like whipped unsalted butter.

This is our 2nd time visiting Staunton. We bought 6 cupcakes, and I've tried one and the frosting of another so far. The frosting tastes like whipped butter; no flavor and no sugar!
