To sum it up simply; outstanding I wanted something with a bit of freshness for dinner and settled on La Saj as I generally like the style of food offered at these restaurants. There was a sign asking to be patient as they are short staffed, but it wasn't evident in my service that they were. My waitress was extremely pleasant and consistent on tending to my needs. So much so that they gave me a carafe of soda as I had been drinking mine down pretty quick! The food itself was above my expectations. The tabbouleh is generously dressed, which could be a turn off for some, but that's how I prefer it. The bread was also not uniform, but I appreciated the character, it shows that someone is really putting these together fresh. There even was one that was quite long that made for a great sandwich vessel with the platter ordered. The meats were cooked wonderfully. Steak was just above medium, chicken cooked but not dry. I'm very particular on my chicken to the point of distrust, and I had no worries with it here. All was seasoned well. The rice was cooked just right and fluffy, no gummy bites to be found. I should have asked for the tomato sauce on the side, it's fine but seems to be inoffensive on purpose. I still enjoyed it, just prefer it with more character. The vegetables were lightly roasted, could have been more, but glad they weren't then opposite end and overcooked as is common elsewhere. Overall, very satisfied with my experience. I would definitely come back, their sandwich prices are enticing at $12 for a sandwich, 2 sides, and more.

Another near-to-home choice. Since I was picking up dinner instead of lunch, I decided to forgo my go-to shawarma and dive deeper into the menu. The Chicken Ghallaba sounded good. Took about 20 minutes for my order to be ready. They were quite busy on a Thursday @ 6 p.m. In fact, by the time my order was ready, they had guests waiting for tables to empty. Seems a good sign. It is a very nice looking place, well decorated, projecting a relaxed, upscale vibe. (It does say "bistro", after all.) Feels less authentic, though. Could've been an Italian joint just as easily. Or Greek. After the stated 20 minutes I had my food in hand and a gnawing in my gut. Once I got home, I was delighted to see how much food my $20 + tax got me. Lentil soup, 5 pieces of bread and that oh-so-yummy garlic spread, and a vast amount of Ghallaba & rice. The soup was good, a little under seasoned. The bread was great & the garlic spread I would put on a brick. The Ghallaba & rice were very good and the quantity was such that it'll be the majority of dinner tomorrow, too.

Where to begin… First of all, we used to go here some years ago and the food was amazing and reasonably priced. Not anymore. Tried to call to place an order today after work and a recording told me to go online. Fine, whatever. Minor irritation but not really a big deal. The wait was 45 minutes for a take out order, and the restaurant was dead. Not sure why it would take so long for three entrees. Got home, was missing one entree. So, they had 45 minutes and they still screwed it up. I should’ve checked before I left, so I guess part of it was on me, but I didn’t really expect it from this restaurant. My wife shared her chicken shawarma with me. The one upside to this meal was that the chicken was flavorful and not dried out at all so there’s that. Bread was also undercooked and looked like someone took a bunch of it and just tossed it in the oven. Very disappointing from a restaurant that I used to love. Unfortunately, we won’t be back to La Saj.

To start, the food is delicious. Definitely one of the best in the area.

My issue this evening was with the service. I understand that many restaurants are understaffed and there are some logistical challenges. But my take out order was missing 2 items, one that I was up charged for.

When my husband got home with the food, I realized the items were missing. La saj is easily a 30-45 minute round trip from our house so going back was not really a great option. I called to complain and ask if we could possibly get a refund on a small part of our order.

When I called, the person I talked to told us we could come back and get the food, which I said was not really a great option due to the amount of time this would take. I then asked if it might be possible to get refund. The person on the phone told me they could give me $1 back. This is the cost of upgrading the salad portion of our meal, not for both missing items. I told her this and said it would be really nice to refund a lower priced item, such as a shawarma sandwich or the hummus we had ordered to make up for the 2 missing items. She stated that a manager would have to do that and told me I would get a call back. I have yet to get a call back. Why wasn’t a manager just given the phone to correct the issue? I’m not sure.

I am very open to being called back to rectify the issue. La Saj does have delicious food but after the mixup and then no resolution on the phone, I do feel frustrated and that this is probably not a place we will get food from again and will have to give a bad recommendation based on the customer service to any friends we talk to. I would love to be able to delete this review in the future or change it to something more positive, if I were to be contacted...

WOW WOW WOW What happened to this place this place used to have top tier service a while ago when people would wait 2-4 hours for a table, came back to Michigan to visit and I went in with my family all we got was bread and water the hostess/manager was too busy talking to another table I’m guessing her friends (100% her friends), all the waitresses had a dear in headlights look on their face we waited 20 mins all we got was bread and water we asked a couple of waitresses and they brushed us aside and told us they’ll get our waitress, our waitress passed us by a couple of times looked at us and nothing no refills on water we didn’t even get our menus I can’t believe this place used to be the place where not just me but anyone who came here to eat made a lot of memories with family and friends where the waiters/waitresses were the most professional servers I’ve ever seen the food was always 5 star it’s crazy that this place turned into a dump I mean what kind of Lebanese restaurant plays country music this isn’t a Texas Roadhouse this place is embarrassing the hostess/manager even chased after me and my family to give us 50% off our meal if we stayed, we left anyways while we were in there the table next to us complained that they’re falafel sandwich was still cold and another couple left the same time we did they got to eat but even they mentioned that they saw us sitting and not being served and also mentioned that they waited a while for they’re food to come out, I can’t wrap my head around as to what happened to this place it was a go to spot for all of macomb county basically I always recommended this place to anyone who wanted to try out a new restaurant out now I wouldn’t recommend this...
