While exploring the town, we stumbled upon Shortcakes Diner and immediately decided to ditch our original dinner plans. We have a habit of seeking out hidden culinary gems like this whenever we're in a new place. Shortcakes Diner may not be pristine and new, but its seasoned charm adds to the overall experience, much like the nostalgic taste of food cooked in Grandma's well-loved cast iron pans. Our waitress, Grace or Faith (we overheard her say it but I can’t remember now which one it was), was incredibly delightful, and there was a cook named Levi who seemed deeply committed to the diner, perhaps even part of the family or a long-time employee. He was training a new cook with patience and kindness, making the whole atmosphere even more enjoyable. As for the food, it was simply outstanding. Our top picks were the cheese fries and peach cobbler with ice cream, but everything we tried was perfect. We're already looking forward to...
Read moreMan, I rarely and almost never give a bad review, but my goodness... I don't know. I simply would never return. The chicken finger dinner was actually very nice and the okra was well cooked However when I asked for ranch I was handed the entire squeeze bottle from the line and had to fill a ramekin myself and the ranch was water as if it was over mixed or close to expiration where it tasted fine.
There’s a lot wrong with this place but a lot could be fixed with better management it seems and better training for the cooks and wait staff, it’s very sad given how excited we were to eat here after we’ve been out of state for several years.
I feel if this restaurant doesn’t take serious action now it won’t be very long till it’s ran out...
