If you like rubbery pizza, caesar salad drenched in dressing and comprised mostly of romaine stems and the actual stump, then this is the place for you!
I can only attest to the 'pizzeria' side of Angelo's as it is and will be the only thing we ever try from here. Just moved to Stoneham from Watertown where we had places like Boston House of Pizza, Sweet Tomato's, and Pini's to choose from, we are going through the list here to find our new GREAT PIZZA place. While driving down Route 28 we had repeatedly observed cars trying to jockey in and out of the small parking lot in front of Angelo's and finally decided to give it a twirl. They only do pick-up so we ordered over the phone - a large pizza and caesar salad. Should be a walk in the park for a place like this.... 25 minutes later I arrived at the suggested pick-up time and was greeted after a minute by one of the girls working there. Upon requesting my order and she checked the box on top of the oven that looked like my order and said it would be another minute or two. As it looked a little busy for even a Wednesday night I was willing to wait for my new favorite pizza! 10 minutes later, having observed the chaos behind the counter and hearing the other patrons pleads for their simple orders I returned to the counter where I was promptly ignored for another 5 minutes plus. Finally a chef came out of the back room, observed the situation and approached me at the counter. He asked if I had been helped and I repeated the order and he promptly retrieved our pizza from where it had sat atop the oven since I had walked in and the salad from the salad bar where it appeared to have been the entire time. I paid and left. Thinking that there must be a reason people put up with this type of service I could imagine that the goods must be that much better. I could even see there were gratis 'bread sticks' in the bag with the salad! YUM!
What a disappointment. Even if I had gotten the pizza right away it wouldn't have mattered. The bottom of the pizza was badly burned and gave the pizza an acid taste. The pepperoni was curled up and burned on the dried edges. I assume the extra time on top of the oven added the gristly rubber consistency of the pizza dough but since the bread sticks were also burned and basically inedible I don't know what to compare it to. The salad, aforementioned, was basically the worst parts of a head of romaine lettuce, actual stump included, drenched in a half-way decent caesar dressing. Croutons were standard.
Maybe this is some crazy anomaly we experienced but I don't think this is worth...
Read moreWe had 7pm reservations on Sat 4/29 for 5. We were seated promptly and ordered our meals at 7:15
Food did not arrive until 8:40 PM. One dinner was the wrong order and the correct order was never served - rather boxed up when we got our bill at 9:40.
Another meal had to be returned due to an issue with the sauce.
Specific details follow but suffice it to say if are looking for an enjoyable night, good service and honest pricing where everyone gets an appetizing meal- keep looking!! ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
At 8:40 One meal was wrong, we ordered fettuccine con manzo, waitress, delivered linguine, ner Ă la Pescatore. After insinuating the mistake was ours, the meal was taken back.
A second meal, swordfish with lemon and saffron had a very unsavory sauce.
When our waitress returned to check on our meals (and brought the nera la pescatore back offering it to us as it would be âwastedâ) we inquired if we could switch it with the unpalatable swordfish dinner and she agreed. The swordfish dinner was removed.
At 9:00 - the swordfish (now covered in a red sauce) was brought back to the table and we were told the chef wanted to ensure we were satisfied). Not sure why since one person still doesnât have a meal and for unknown reasons another has 2 meals (although only the replacement dish was requested).
At 9:30 our waitress came to the table to apologize and said the restaurant was short a cook that evening. She offered a dessert to the person who had not gotten her meal - actually insisting, although the dessert was refused. I was embarrassed having invited these people to dinner and having such a disaster so I said she should bring the dessert and the bill as 4 of us had finished our dinner and we had been there for just under 3 hours.
The final insult to injury was when the bill arrived at 9:40 with the dessert charge(any decent and respectable restaurant, would have comped) as well as charges for five dinners, although only four were served at your restaurant, another came in a box with the bill , and the returned swordfish with the replaced sauce which we did not want, we did not request, and we should not have been charged for was bagged and sent with us. I feel this was a bait and switch as you charged us for the more expensive dishes (fish) yet comped the least expensive Pepe Nero.
Perhaps Angelo could rectify the overcharge by donating my overcharge of the swordfish dinner and the cannoli dessert to the local food bank or FeedingAmerica @...
Read moreI booked a luncheon in May for my grandsonâs communion. From the beginning, the organization of this event was shoddy. No formal contract was ever created with specific pricing for the menu items I was selecting, despite my asking for it, multiple times. I requested that my guests be served a drink of their choice upon arrival, and then be served the wine that I had chosen for the event, and people could purchase drinks as they wanted them after that. This did NOT happen. They left the bar open for the entire event, which is something that was never agreed upon. I requested that the meal be served family style, with the exception of the antipasto, which I wanted to be served individually. The day of the event, the antipasto was brought to each table as a family style platter, again, not what I had requested. I had given a deposit of $255 that was to be deducted from the final bill. When the final bill arrived, this was never deducted. I returned to the restaurant a few days later to discuss the deposit be refunded, and wanted an explanation of how they charged the meals. There were 8 tables on the day of the event, and some menu items were charged at 8 plates, while another was charged at 16! Clearly, they have no rhyme or reason as to how to charge for such an event. It looked like they charged their normal restaurant plate amounts and multiplied them as they chose. The waitress that I spoke with, Karen, couldnât seem to grasp what I was telling her that the pricing didnât make any sense. After I left, she called me at home to continue to give me some sort of explanation (she was talking in circles) and ended up hanging up on me! While Angeloâs does have good food, their customer service and ability to host an event is terrible. Beware if you book anything with them, as they will charge you whatever...
