¡Ay Güey! Cafe & Cocina Mexicana — Restaurant in Stratford

By far the best Mexican Restaurant I have ever been to in Connecticut. Nothing comes close. It is real Mexican food. Not Tex-Mex or the watered down Americanized versions that have little resemblance to actual Mexican cooking. Great menu with variety and descriptions that make it easy for those not familiar with this great cuisine to find something they can feel comfortable ordering. I had the huaraches and they were prepared perfectly. Crispy on the bottom and flavorful tender masa with perfectly seasoned black beans and topping. My wife loved her tacos (forgot the name but it had steak, chorizo and pineapple). I can’t wait to go back and little by little try everything. Great atmosphere. Great service and great prices which makes it all the more appealing since we will be able to be regular customers.

hard to believe this place has such a high average review; it's a neighborhood place which i want to do well, but...i ordered a beef enchilada---i've had many-this was the first time the meat was served in chunks, grayish and tasteless; it was mixed in a bowl with rice, beans, cheese, a couple of vegetables; it appeared the whole thing was just microwaved; sadly, the whole thing was flavorless, strange for a mexican restaurant; i had to keep adding salt to salvage any taste, and ate less than half; i'm surprised the enchilada didn't use shtedded beef and wasn't prepared with more care and using mexican spices....to just put beef chunks and cheese in a bowl with rice and beans shouldn't be called an...

¡Ay Güey, qué rico fue! I happened upon this place today; what a find! I had what was hands-down, and by far, the best mole I have ever eaten outside of Mexico! It was bursting with flavor—sweet, spicy, and chocolatey! The place is fresh, new, clean, and trendy. The service was outstanding, and friendly. It felt like I was eating at a friend’s grandmother’s kitchen. The location is awesome, and they have parking, too. I will definitely make this a regular stop, and count it as my new favorite Mexican restaurant!

1/25/23: Prices went up, menu has been scaled back, and they stopped serving chips and salsa and no rice and beans come with full plates anymore. Flavor of the food is still...
