I used to frequent Stop and Shop often, it was actually the main Grocery Store that I used, and I would only go there to get a few basic items which was always ice cream, ice cream cones, chips/snacks, iced tea ready mix, singles of wet cat food and anything else I may of needed or to pickup for my Grandparents. Years passed, Prices increased and I began to notice that despite recent stock issues and everything, the sales were not as frequent, every time I would go and look for something in stock such as any of the items I mentioned it would be completely wiped out, so that's when I started to keep in mind the new prices that Stop and Shop were offering for the items I usually buy and had no choice but to go across the street to ShopRite when the things that I needed were out of stock. I noticed immediately that the items I needed were in stock and that was despite notes being placed up saying that there were stock issues which I think was nice as I did not see that at Stop & Shop and I was noticing that sales were more frequent and prices were better even when there wasn't a sale. I did still go to Stop & Shop a few times and every time I went it just became a disappointment and I ended up not getting the things I wanted and having to always go back across the street which ended up unfortunately making me really no longer a Stop & Shop customer 100%, I would say now the chances of me going there is maybe 5 to 10%. I've completely switched over because as the time passed I still went back and looked into things and there were no changes, at least for me and the items I always seek out. So unfortunately, I have to say that my 4 Stars has gone down to 3. The Benefit of Stop & Shop for me, is that once in awhile I might be able to find for my cat Marilla the Sheba Pate Wet Food Singles so then I'm able to get a couple Flavors extra that I want to add to what I already have at home for her. For instance, the 48 count Box of Sheba Pate Wet Food in the Seafood Flavors, there is one other Seafood Flavor which is just plain Tuna Entree, I like to be able to get that as an additional Flavor. Stop & Shop has that (when it's in stock), which is excellent and I will say ShopRite does not offer Sheba in Singles. This is only one Item though and I wish I could include more, but as of right now, the negatives outweigh the Positives, hence why I'm now a ShopRite customer. Hopefully in the future my experience will change...
Read moreThis review pertains to prepared foods department only.
I called the Stratford location and selected the Deli department on the Stores directory. The woman that answered did not greet nor did she state what dept. I called. I kindly stated I choose the Deli dept prompt but I wanted prepared foods she said "yes this is prepared foods". I asked if I can place an order for some chicken. She stated she needed a 24 hour notice and I said no problem. I asked if I can order a 30pc. Chicken. She said we dont have 30 piece orders. I said ok what size orders do you have. She starts the cou t at 4 pieces, 8, etc etc till she got to 32 pieces then on to 50 something. I said ok then a 32 piece. She said again, i need 24 hours for the order. At this time her rudeness deemed me to be sarcastic so i said how many hours is it till Saturday from today (Wednesday). She didnt like that much, I assume as she told me to hold. After a couple minutes she returns and says Stop & Shop. I said yes im trying to place an order for chicken. She asked me the count again and the day & time for pick up. I gave her all the information she requested. Phone, date, time, and full name of person picking up. That was it no thank you or farewell greeting so i said have a nice day and she hung up. Fast forward to Saturday and pick up was about an hour late. Gave the counter person the name for pick up and she had no order for me. She than asked if I called that Stop & Shop. I confirmed. Sorry no order and If you meed an order we need 24 hour notice. I am not going to continue the conversation as im sure you can figure out that i didn't receive the order.
WARNING: If you are going to order from this prepared food dept. Which I don't recommend, be sure to confirm all information and call again just before the 24 hour mark to confirm again. Im going to save me trouble and just order from another barely surviving location as they are shutting down locations left and...
Read moreI use to go shopping at Stop & Shop a lot, I like it because of the Nature's Promise products and the soup kit. But this particular store, from Stratford, made me to change my mind and I'm not shopping there. Here are a few reasons: The person who suppose to pickup the shopping carts is feeding the seagulls .....so they can poop on you and the carts. The entrance is dirty and a lot of employees are hanging out there smoking The produce......some of the chopped vegetables are on the shelves for a long time, the water gets in those containers and the veggies are mushed and smashed- I remember some zucchini- they looked like a zucchini ragu. Deli statio.......this guys have forgotten to change their gloves. They make you a sandwich, wrapped up for you, they fix their apron (if they have one) fix the hat, and serve the next costumer...not changing the gloves. What's the reason of wearing it? Cheese area it smells, I know the cheese smell .....but this one almost stinks. Bread area it's poorly looking and a lot of bread crumbs on the floor, I have to watch my daughter because she'll start picking from the floor. Many of the aisle are a mess, nobody is merchandising. Not the most friendly cashiers neither.
Bottom line: I won't come back to this particular Stop&Shop, I would most likely go to the one in Fairfield, Stamford, Greenwich, Port Chester -on my way to/from work. This Stratford Stop&Shop need to improve substantial because at this point is under it's ...
