Gaetano's Deli — Restaurant in Stratford

Gaetanos is the Absolute best when it comes to subs/grinders. My only problem is the Shelton location will refuse a phone order if you only ordering one or two sandwiches. The issue is I go to lunch with a half an hour..there are at least 10 people ahead of me when I arrive. So I try to place a phone order to get back to work on time. That's ok though. If they don't take my phone order, I'll just go to Urban Greek where some of the dishes are better, wait time is much less. So there is really no sacrifice going with the second option. In my last attempt I was told by Gaetanos Shelton...we have a long "line" for phone orders...Really? Come on Man...stop with the BS. Your sandwiches are good but not that good when Urban Greek is right across the street. And Gaetanos Stratford is only 5 more minutes in travel. My money goes where I can go on a half hour lunch with enough time to get back on time. I'll eat at my desk. Keep turning down my phone order..that's fine with me. I...

Upon arrival there were people in line outside the deli. As we moved closer to the door we see people coming out so we know they are following COVID rules which is awesome!! As we start to enter the the deli to pick up our order we were greeted by a man who with no manners at all said OUTSIDE in a loud voice in front of everyone in the deli and then a girl from behind the deli said OUTSIDE !! This was absolutely disgusting behavior!!! As a former deli owner myself I would NEVER speak to any of my customers like this!! Another gentleman just happened to walk in to pick up his order was treated the same way but it was worse for him than what we got and he just left!! I doubt i will ever return!! People are emotional during the time with COVID and people passing away including my father just a few weeks ago!! Be careful how you treat people Gaetano employees!!

CONTAMINATING FOOD! I came here with my mom, who wanted an Italian hero. Being from Brooklyn I was reminded of home. The staff were loud, and the guy behind the counter was very talkative while working. They worked fast, as they were swamped with customers. The 2 stars is not because I'm vegan and don't eat meat or dairy, and it's not because they glorified the Italian mafia by naming a bunch of sandwiches after them. It is because the young lady they had making my mom's sandwich was wearing a string bracelet with beads on it, and although she was wearing gloves, her bracelet was dragging across the meat in the sandwich contaminating it with whatever was on it before (think being in the toilet). I had actually considered ordering a vegetarian sandwich until I saw that, and I thought to myself, if the boss sees this and says nothing, what other contamination are...
