The BEST Indian restaurant in South Jersey! It's so good, we make the longer commute rather than dining at local buffets. The dining room is clean and informal. The waiter is very accommodating and can help you make choices and explain the various selections.
Their lunch buffet is a great introduction to Indian cuisine. For $11.95 from 11:30-2:30, you can have a variety of appetizers, sides, entrees, and desserts. The Sambar soup is smokey (a hint of tabacco-like flavor my husband loves), and their fried pakoras and samosas are generous in size. Rice sides include jeera (delicate basmati with cumin seeds) or another that is more like a biryani. The naan is cooked well and is the perfect choice to clean up the delicious sauces of the entrees.
Entrees may include selections such as: palak paneer (spinach and cheese), dal makhani (earthy lentils and kidney beans), aloo gobi (potatoes and cauliflower), THE BEST NAVRATTAN KORMA (vegetables in a creamy cashew sauce), the ever popular chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, chicken kebab, spicy goat curry, and more! Each dish is remarkable in it's own right.
The salad bar has chaat (chickpeas and potatoes), Puri (puffed rice puffs perfect for sauces and chutneys), iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, seasoned onions, red onion slices, cucumbers, and chutneys, sauces, and raitas. The tamarind, yogurt, and mint are favorites, but don't forget the herbal water on the chaat! Yum!!!
For dessert, they always offer gulab jaman, rice pudding, watermelon slices and fruit salad in mango puree.
Be sure to read the sign in the entryway to see the other items you can get FREE with the buffet price. Items such as lassis, soda, dosa, Kati rolls, and sandwiches are offered. My kids love the mango lassi, but we've never had enough room to sample anything off the buffet.
Bring your appetite! Gagan never disappoints. They also offer a dinner...
Read moreHas anyone ever had such a "flavor craving" that when you finally satisfy it, you just had to eat yourself way past the point of being "Full"? Well, that's what happens every single time I visit Gagan Palace. This time I took my Mom so we could enjoy a savory dish of Lamb Korma. My opinion, the best I've had anywhere between southern NJ all the way to New Brunswick. In our excitement to get there we forgot to pickup a bottle of wine, but no matter, we enjoyed sipping on their housemade fresh Mango and Sweet Lassis. While we waited for the tender, hot and creamy Lamb to be served we endulged in a plethora of their other many freshly prepared buffet items. The atmosphere, music, and service is always a pleasure. They are always so attentive and gracious. After it was all done, as I sat back in my chair, belly full, almost painfully stuffed, I could not pass up the final treat I always look forward to - dessert Kulfi made with Pistaccio and Rosewater - I can never resist it. Such a great place to dine, always happy every time. 5 STARS! Check out my Instagram post about it @xinyourmindx and see the dish...
Read moreI called this place first and asked for the price of their lunch buffet before we go there. He told me that the price is $12.99 plus tax so he said almost or around $14.
As soon as we got there, we didn’t feel welcome. The waiter/busboy/cashier frowned/cranky the whole time we were there. We were still eating and he told us that they’re closing in 5mins, that was around 2:20pm!! I know they close at 3pm to get ready for dinner buffet, I don’t know why he said that they’re closing before 2:30pm. So of course we rushed to finish our food!! There were two guys eating there at the same time as us, they’re about to pay and I overheard this cranky cashier telling them that the system is “slow” and can only accept cash. I heard him telling them that their bill is $28 (for two people) so I assumed that our bill will also be $28 coz it’s also just for two people. When we’re about to pay we asked him how much is our bill, he said $30!! There was no receipt so we didn’t t know why we were charged more than the two...
