Most of the waitstaff is not good, but will not stop me from enjoying their wonderful food. Authentic Chinese food!
What will stop me is the manager/host on most days, and all Sundays. I believe her name is Lisa. When you go and especially when you order for pick up, make sure you watch her accounting.
My first incident: I ordered $30+ of food through the phone. I got there, the order was ready, she said the total was 38+, reading off the receipt. I handed her cash, she gave me the change. I asked for the receipt, she looked a little confused. It was just in her hand , I saw her drop it in the bin, but then she starts scrounging for my receipt. Kept looking, for almost 2 minutes. Then she 'finds' it, then shows me, she made a mistake. She offers me extra food. She says the difference was less than $5 mistake, and that she's giving me 2 $3 dimsum dishes. She definitely had a look of someone who got caught with her hand in the cookie jar. That was a horrible experience.
So next big incident was yesterday. I ordered for pickup 4 order of a dimsum dish. I knew it cost 2.50 each. I got there, Lisa was there manning the front register. Order is brought to the front, so she tells me: "It's 14.87, uhhhhh, no." hitting her head, 'no it's 11.83', so i hand her $20, while collecting the change, we had a conversation. She noticed that I knew the prices of the different sizes of dimsum. It was one of our favorite dimsum places, so I knew. She looked impressed. She explained that small is 2.50, medium is $3, etc.. then she showed me the check , it showed $10.83, 'see, $10.83' , she repeats ... wow, i was so dumbfounded with this lady , it was so obvious what she was trying to do and she's not even 'hiding' it or embarassed by all this. So, she hands me the change. I leave, still in shock. I get in the car, count the change, and she shortchanged me $1, only gave me $8++. What an experience. I did not bother going back for it.
On the first incident , I promised myself to let them know about what happened. But did not really get around to doing it. This time, I hope I can some time to do it for real. This has to stop. I feel sorry for a wonderful eating place to be ruined by one lousy...
Read moreThis place has been there for so many years I know the owner very well but I hate it when she turn around sometimes I don't recognize you or take advantage of you she try to push you to order the most expensive things and sometimes she is mean and pushy and sometimes she's very nice you can kind of say have two faces and you have to watch out too because when we went there to eat dim sum we got this huge bill for lunch in the price was overpriced and they charge us something that we did not order:-(! What is wonderful the drinks are free refill I'm talking about sodas and hot tea the food is delicious but sometime I have to sit there and wait and wait and wait to have my food order to go especially if I have to disable parents waiting to eat I believe when you have a customer it should be first come first serve not sitting there waiting for your order when you are there first before other people was they're coming in! Sometimes she is not friendly at all when you're a very loyal customer of her that is something I do not absolutely like we've been a loyal customer since the day that they open and also I know her before this restaurant even existed! Absolutely too bad when you are were loyal customer and gives the person a lots of money of spending at the restaurant and then Your Attitude change just because your parents is getting old and becomes disabled there should be no attitude changes you should be always very grateful that we kept your business going and that you have a place to live and to survive especially even my friends noticed that how pitiful it is:-(! I even got to the point that I tried to not to order food there or go there too much because the way we are treated:-(! But part of my family and my parents still want to give her some business but not as much as before because of how we feel! She works as a cashier and sometimes take care of the customers make sure everything is running right she is the same person who owns this restaurant to make sure everything...
Read moreJade Garden is an ideal location suited to seat large parties/groups of customers. However, in doing so, the rest of the tables are arranged so close to each other to maximize occupancy that conversations overlap resulting in a very loud and noisy restaurant. Not only are you barely able to hear the person across from you, diners are constantly squeezing in-and-out past your chair to navigate their way to the restroom.
On a food perspective, the new revamped menu now offers dim sum. Being one of the only restaurants in Sugar Land that serves dim sum, I would consider Jade Garden as a convenience rather than a delicacy since there are far superior spots in Bellaire/Chinatown that are more authentic flavored.
They do have a grand opening special deal right now featuring two lobsters for $18.99 cooked in two styles to choose from 1) Stir-fry lobster with leek/ginger or 2) Salt&pepper fried lobster. My family ordered the stir fry style in addition to our dim sum dishes. The fresh lobster by far made up for the lack of flavor in the dim sum.
Given that we dined on a Sunday for lunch, the restaurant was crowded so the wait staff was swamped with servicing tables. Waited for a long time with an empty glass before I finally asked a waiter to give me a beverage refill. At least our dim sum dishes arrived in a prompt manner after ordering so we did not have to wait too long for our food.
I would recommend avoiding busy peak hours especially during the weekends if you are dining out. Perhaps you will have better experience service and food-wise on a regular weekday or...
