Ordered online via eat street and walked in 10 minutes later, then the fun started.
Place smelled good but noticed the floors are sticky.
Minute 1: told me their order systems were down and they didn't get my order. Asked me to cancel the online order and order again in person. They said it'd be ready in 5 minutes so I agreed. Apparently they knew the number to call because eat street just called them about it, not sure why they couldn't just have it accepted but whatever. Called support. Canceled order. Placed new order in person.
Minute 5: man in a Dirty shirt and open toe sandals with a really gnarly torn up big toe (fungus?) comes from the back kitchen and sits at the next table over. I really hope he wasn't a cook...
Minute 6: see an adult cockroach scurry towards me on the floor and go under the bench next to me. "ok never coming here again" but I'm already here and paid. Roach would proceed to visit my foot then run to the table the other man is sitting at, had a feeling I was going to need pictures so I took a couple.
Minute 10: this 5 minute wait time has now doubled, the staff is dirty and unkempt and I'm seeing roaches. That's already 3 strikes and I'm really trying to just stay calm. I don't like being rude.
Minute 15: start looking around. No more bugs but I see a white powder lining the edge of the walls, bug poison? Dust and dirt? Not sure but it can't be a good thing
Minute 17: I hear a microwave in the kitchen as they're preparing my food. I'm going to assume that's the samosas. Still not cool
Minute 20: I decide I'm done, they have too many strikes and have wasted my whole lunch now. Tell them I want my money back and someone finally runs out with my food. Decide to cut my losses and take the food. Told them about the roach, told them this is unacceptable and left.
I then got back to my vehicle to discover they messed my order up even though I showed them the original online order and told them the order face to face when they made me reorder it.
At that point I was fed up. Stormed back in telling them they screwed up my order and I want my money back. They tried to ask me to wait for a replacement but I wasn't having it. They agreed and gave me cash refund. I then noticed the roach I told them about was found and stepped on... And left on the floor where they smashed it. I pointed it out, grabbed a napkin and scooped it up myself and handed it to them. They kept saying "I know I know" but why was it left on the floor then???
Absolutely unacceptable and disgusting from the ground up. Really disappointed because the food looked really good but I will never know now.
1 star is too generous for this. Worst experience I've had in a...
Read moreBeing a katar Lahori me and my kids are not easily impressed by mediocre desi food especially when it comes to halwa puri. We have pretty much tried every halwa puri joint in Houston and so far the only thing that came close to authentic puri street style were the more well known and older sweet joint (DS) right in the corner of this same complex. DS was our place to go to for fresh puris that have just the right amount of elasticity and flakiness that make a perfect puri. Didn't always liked their channa and halwa as it wasn't always the best. We however accidentally got to try Pakwan House for halwa puri breakfast a day or two after Eid. Due to prevailing Corona conditions we didn't want to dine inside a restaurant and by chance found Pakwan house right around the corner with outside seating. We were skeptical as we hadn't tried them before and also because most desi restaurants we had tried weren't very good with getting the puris right. Anyways we were pleasantly surprised not just by the authenticity and taste of the food but also by the quality of it as well compared to their competitors right around the corner. Their puri were just as good as their competitor and channa, aloo and halwa were actually better in taste and quality. I also tried Nihari and naan which was great as well though it had a tad bit more salt in it than I prefer. Someone commented below on their Nihari being oily and greasy which I don't think is fair as authentic Nihari is supposed to be that way and I certainly didn't see excessive oil in mine. We were also served tea that came in authentic dhaba style pot and cups. They can certainly improve on the tea a bit by not keeping it in a percolator for too long. Overall we were very happy with the food and service as well and this has now become our new go to place for good and authentic halwa...
