If you’re trying to decide on dining plans (or simply just appetizers and a beverage), look no further; Bexley is absolutely incredible! The food was simply divine. My partner and I were hoping for a cocktail and some fresh oysters, but we had so much more. We started with a dozen oysters, had the surf and turf (both of our first time of having bone marrow) and it was so melty, buttery, and smooth - scrumptious on the fluffy, crisp bread. We then had the roast oysters which were yummy and flavorful. But we loved the raw oysters so much we ordered another half dozen. They were light, flavorful, and smooth. All of the sauces are made in house and you can tell. It is so flavorful and sits with you so well.
On top of the amazing food, the service was incredible. Our server, Sue, took such care in explaining the different varieties of oysters to us as we were unfamiliar. She guided us well, and she was beyond patient and so kind. She was an absolute delight!
The owner, Jeff, came to ask how the food was - twice! It is obvious to all of Bexley’s diners how passionate he is about his restaurant. We noticed him check in with each table. His genuine kindness, pride, and excitement was delicious, too. Rare and delightful to have someone who cares as much as Jeff did, especially in this area.
And lastly, Jonah. We sat at the bar watching the great care and thought that was put into each dish to make it not only flavorful and delicious, but beautiful. This gentleman was wearing a striped black and white shirt and also checked in on us several times. It was very refreshing to have such nice conversation with everyone and to feel so welcomed. We loved speaking with him!
We are two first timers who will certainly be back. It was such a treat - the food, the service, and the people. 100/10 HIGHLY recommend.
UPDATE: we went back tonight and tried the she crab soup (A MUST), their Cesar salad (ANOTHER MUST), their lobster roll, and their fried oyster roll among other items. It was so incredible. Mike came and spoke with us, too, and told us how so much of Bexley is local: their dishes were made by a lady in Summerville, and their micro greens and a few other items are grown nearby. Everything was so delicious, everyone was so kind. Of course we come for the food because it is divine, but the experience is a huge part of the reason we will continue coming. We absolutely adore all of the staff! Thank you to everyone at Bexley for another incredible culinary and dining...
Read moreIncredible. If art on a plate was able to describe such a place, it still wouldn't do it justice. These chefs are experts in their craft, skilled in seafood, and love what they do.
The atmosphere is cozy but it doesn't take away from the experience -- it gives you a chance to eye your neighbor's choices and direct your course selection, if anything!
Friendly and well informed are what I'd call the servers; you can imagine they've tasted everything on the menu, and have an excellent way of helping steer your tastes to the perfect choice!
Whatever the Surf Board happens to be that night, you should try it. What an excellent, beautiful, and creative way to showcase bites of unique seafood and culinary delights! The Tuna Tartare was delicious and fresh. The oysters we tried were the Well Fleet, and they were tastey -- although not separated from the shell, so heads up! What was exciting here were the dropper bottles of different hit sauces served in the oyster ice tray! So clever and fun! We split the Miso Scallop large plate, and it was absolutely incredible. A blend of flavors we were not expecting, and so thrilled to experience. The scallops were perfectly charred, and yet perfectly soft and delicious. Alone, and had we not had so many other dishes prior, we would have wanted to add the Bexley Bread to this Miso Scallop dish so we could have mopped up the "chowder" the scallops and mussels were swimming in.
All in all, this is a yes. The experience is worth it, and we will absolutely be back.
Reservations not only recommended, but almost required, so make the plan to come here and reserve your spot online asap! There was not a free seat in either the dining room or at the bar - and our reservations were at 7:30. Which is another nod to how incredible this...
Read moreOMG - if I could give a place 20 stars, this place would get it! The service was amazing, the food was delicious and interesting and literally not a single bad bite. I don’t eat raw fish and we tried the tuna tartare and I’m converted! The waitstaff was so knowledgeable and recommended all their favorites.
We did tasting/family style which allows you try try a little bit of everything. We got the Tuna Tartare, Roasted Oysters, Chilled Tomato Soup, & the Pork Belly & Squid. This place just can’t be beat! It’s a family locally owned & operated business which makes it even more worth it! The food are beautifully plated! Everything is caught locally and shipped in fresh. The prices can’t be beat, especially when you consider the atmosphere and experience of it all. It’s just truly beautiful and delicious and SO SO SO worth a stop in.
We stayed until it almost closed just enjoying conversations with the owner & chefs & other patrons. Who I’m assuming was the sours chef (I am so sorry, I can’t remember his name) but he had us try a homemade plum jam and homemade pineapple vinegar which was SHOCKINGLY easily drinkable and SO SO tasty.
You can tell everyone there treats their coworkers & patrons like one & like a big family. The chefs are all passionate about not only delivering DELICIOUS food, but experimenting and exploring food creations and that’s the beauty of food!
I just can’t rave about this place enough. We will ABSOLUTELY be regulars once we move down.
If you’re in the Summerville area, PLEASE stop by. Sit at the bar and watch them work, have conversations and just enjoy VERY much...
