Derek's Sandwich Shop — Restaurant in Summerville

I stopped by today after conducting business in Summerville. I had never been to this establishment. I was craving Greek food and googled for a restuarant I thought was in Summerville but apparently it had closed because it was not listed, so I googled "greek food near me " and several items populated. I read the reviews and Derek's was highly rated and close by. When I arrived, I met the most wonderful and personable staff, including Derek. I made a specific request for my 2 Gyros sandwiches to be "deconstructed " since I had a long drive home and didn't want them to be soggy. He was MORE than accommodating. I also purchased some banana pudding for my mother for dessert. Derek also allowed me to try some pound cake that smelled delicious. When I got home, the 2 containers of food were filled with fresh and crisp vegetables, perfectly seasoned pita bread, excellent sauce and the Gyro meat was enough to feed 4 people! My mother and I throughly enjoyed the Gyros and she said the banana pudding was some of the best she's ever had. Despite the hour + drive, I'll be returning to eat from this place again. I look forward to many more Gyros and also trying some of the many sandwiches offered. I would highly recommend eating here....

I just finished a Gyro from Derek’s. Not my first Gyro from Derek as I had one once before. If there is a better Gyro anywhere, it would have to be in Turkey or Greece. Hands down the best Gyro this side of the Atlantic Ocean and in all places, beautiful little Summerville, home of Sweet Tea. I have also tried Derek Cuban Sandwich. Again a winner. I love Cubans and this was terrific! Next time I go I have a decision to make, Gyro or Cuban. He offers other options but I can’t pass up these two. Both delicious and generous size. BTW excellent veggie soup comes with your sandwich or Gyro.

Quick update I finally decided to pass on my routine of ordering either a gyro or Cuban on my last visit to Derek for lunch. I ordered the Pastrami Ruben. Yikes! Since we were in Summerville again, we knew we wanted to grab a sandwich at Derek's, right behind Coastal Produce.

The woman who works there is always so friendly and nice at this very popular local place. There are many people who call their order in and come pick it up, so there's a steady flow of customers.

There are a bunch of picnic tables at the back of the parking lot and under the trees, so large groups can eat here.

The sides are all fantastic and made fresh. Pure comfort food- potato salad, Cole slaw, and macaroni salad are our favorites.

On this visit, we got our favorite gyros, served with a pineapple ring and a side. The gyros are tasty, fresh, and warm, made to order, with a good amount of meat and cheese.
