After almost 6 years, we decided to visit this PF Chang's location. To our surprise, everything remained the same - the ambience, setup, and menu. Intrigued by the Chef's Special menu, which included a Soup/Salad, Appetizer, and Entree, we decided to give it a try. Since we were a group of 4 we each got to choose a Soup or Salad, two appetizers for the table, and one entree each, all for $23.95 per person. It seemed like a great deal.
For the Soup/Salad, we opted for the Egg Drop Soup, Hot & Sour Soup, and a salad. The Egg Drop Soup and salad were delicious, but the Hot & Sour Soup was too sour for our liking. We asked the server to take it back, but unfortunately, we weren't offered a replacement or any other options.
Moving on to the appetizers, there were only three choices available. We decided on the Crispy Green Beans and Lettuce Wraps, which were decent. However, the Crispy Green Beans turned out to be excessively greasy and undercooked on the inside. It would have been better if there were more appetizer options to choose from.
For the entrees, we selected Chang's Spicy Chicken with rice, Ma Po Tofu, Signature Lo Mein, and Fried Rice. The Lo Mein stood out as the clear winner, while the Spicy Chicken leaned more towards a sweet flavor. The Ma Po Tofu was average, and we were hoping for a vegetarian gravy option in the entrees. The Fried Rice was disappointing as it contained raw broccoli, and it seemed like half of the dish consisted of broccoli in both the Fried Rice and Ma Po Tofu. Also, white and brown rice that come along were too dry, may be as it was end of the day.
To quench our thirst, we ordered Pomogrenate Lemonade and Strawberry Cucumber Lemonade. Among the two, the Strawberry Cucumber Lemonade was the better choice.
Finally, my wife ordered the Great Wall of Chocolate for dessert, which was indeed massive and delicious.
Overall, we felt that the Chef's Special menu for $23.95 per person was not worth it due to the limited options and our dissatisfaction with some of the dishes. In hindsight, it would have been wiser to order from the regular menu. We could have shared three entrees among the four of us, which would have been sufficient, and the overall price would have been the same. So, it's important to choose wisely when deciding...
Read moreWe stopped at the Cherry Orchard pF Changs in Sunnyvale mid afternoon after a few meetings that didn't provide snacks (how rude!). We were seated in a pleasant area with a few diners spaced well apart. We were waited on right away by a very pleasant waitress. She asked if we wanted tea and other drinks and gave us our menus while she went to get the drinks. Crispy Green Beans are always our appetizer of choice and they were really good, but this dish should be well drained of fat. More than this order was. I had the Mandarin Orange Crunchy Salad. The waitress asked if I wanted to add protein to it and I chose chicken. Good choice for this dish. My partner ordered Mongolian Beef. Both dishes were well done and a good size. By the time we finished our late "lunch" other diners and wait staff were arriving. A good time to exit! With the closing of the Monterey and Blossom Hill Shopping center location closed we felt fortunate to find this one open. They have been at this location since that area was rebuilt. The parking lot was 3/4 full at 4pm. There are other shops and dining take out places also sharing this lot and it can get busy. Entry and exits are from Sunnyvale Saratoga road and El Camino. The townhouses/ apartments next to it have driveways open to the businesses. I dont think however that you can park in their spaces. The area is extremely busy around the lunch hour. The restrooms give the age of the building away and are in need of a refresh. They are clean though. The temps were near 100 abd humid so we appreciated parking under a tree and going into the nicely air conditioned restaurant. All in all the food is good and we will frequent this PF Changs again. We also used to go to the Changs at Stanford Shopping Center, but it is more out of the way and the staff in general isn't too friendly when we've been there with colleagues. They need to remember their patrons are very well heeled regardless of how they dress and the attitude they project is not flattering to them, and downright laughable...
Read moreFirst of all, if you are going out on a date or a group, then reserve online as it is crowded even at 6.30 pm. Else there is a long wait for almost 25-30 minutes. The ambience is nice but it is little crowded on weekends, it's sometimes too annoying. It is okay for people who want to eat in crowded place but the chatting noise seriously killed the ambience. The tables are placed so close that you could actually hear what the person orders from the other table. I could literally hear what other people are talking and which made me so conscious to speak very less. There is a board outside stating "Brought a date?" But this is not a place to go on a date. I hope the PF Chang improves their ambience by putting lesser tables and making more space or even having some dine outside. The serving is also poor. First they don't bring food in order. We had ordered two appetizers and a beer with two Mains. One appetizer came first and then came the Mains and then the beer and after we finished our dinner we got the second appetizer. We tried to cancel the second appetizer but the server said one minute and it took 20 minutes to arrive at the end of dinner argh! Also I had ordered stir-fried eggplant but they dint even serve rice, when asked the server simply said he will get rice and dint even ask my choice of rice and gave a sticky white rice. The food is average, there are better places like Shana Thai in mountain view or Madarin roots in Palo Alto who serve better food with better ambience. Atleast they serve food in order. DO NOT GO if you are going on a date...
