I don't write many reviews on restaurants but Louie K's deserves one. The subs are phenomenal, don't get me wrong, but I don't go here for the food, I go to observe the most efficient sub operation ever to exist.
Let's start with the overall operation. Having experience with project management, it makes me smile seeing how efficiently this business operates. At any typically sub shop you would most likey get in line, peruse the menu on some sign above the register while you figure out what you want to eat before its your turn to order, right? Not at this place. Louie has signs directing customers to the 'Order Form' station where they fill out their order on paper. This is more efficient for Louie because he can continue to prepare the previous customer's sub while they next customer is ordering.
Louie's sub making station is a service belt on steroids. From prepping the bread, slicing the cold cuts, condiments, wrapping, to bagging. I measured the tape used on the wrapping paper for the subs he prepared for my wife and I, both pieces were exactly 1 inch long. Simply amazing. Our favorite part is how Louie wraps the subs with the order form. Why you ask? Because when you go home and realize that onion isn't on your Italian sub, it's not because Louie forgot it, it's because you didn't fill it out on the damn order form.
Now let's talk about the shop appearance/atmosphere. This place is cleaner than my grandmother's house and she probably sleeps with a handheld vacuum cleaner on her nightstand. No but really, I don't think there was one crumb on the floor, I almost took my shoes off after I walked in.
Louie has spiced this place up recently with a new retro logo and some cool neon lights. He had some disco/funk music playing, and the volume was at the perfect level. I felt like I was having an out of body experience, and wanted to get up and dance a bit but didn't want to get my man's carpet dirty.
Now for the food. Not much to say here, it's all great, and we keep coming back! Louie will make it exactly how you order it. We typically get the Italian.
Last but not least, Louie. This guy means business. He always wears a black t-shirt and can get a little aggravated if you fill out the order form incorrectly. But don't let that intimidate you - his subs are worth it!
Just go here. Seriously. It's worth...
Read moreThis little hole in the wall carry-out shop is incredible. Don't be fooled by the location--it was clean, well-organized and the products are high-quality.
I went in just after lunch rush to pick up two sandwiches. Found the place through google, thinking I'd like to try something new and quick, and boy, did I get more than I bargained for! I order an Italian and a Lou's Chicken special (chicken cutlets, capicola, mustard, Swiss)--smalls size and bought chips and a soda.
The sandwiches were piled high with absolutely magic. The Italian had fresh sliced meats and cheeses, and Lou topped it with all the toppings I could have asked for. By the time we were done, this incredible sandwich was like 3-4 inches tall, and half was enough to tide me over for the afternoon! The special Lou's chicken had four chicken tenders, lots of capicolla, cheese, and toppings--I asked Lou to fix it up how he makes to for himself, and man--this was delicious. Hot, melty mix of savory flavors and briny pickles--so satisfying. Half was also great. I had hoped it would be whole chicken cutlets, not ground chicken cutlets, but in the end, still totally delicious.
It reminded me of the kinds of delicious subs you get up north, and for good reason--Lou's from Jersey and brought his talents down here. He does justice to high quality subs and was well worth the trip.
Plenty of food for the price, order one size lower than you planned if you want to...
Read moreI found Louie K Subs by googling tuna melt. The tuna melt was everything thing my tummy craved!
Let’s start by saying this place had been near my job for 23 years! I am shocked at my self not not trying them sooner.
I got the tuna melt on garlic bread. The bread was fresh and fluffy and the garlic flavor was there to add depth but not to ruin the sandwich! I liked and appreciated that.
The restaurant is take out only, so I recommend ordering online or knowing the menu before you get there if not you’ll have to use the paper order form which was slightly overwhelming and I made a mistake or two…😳 luckily I figured everything out in under a few mins and my order for the delicious tuna melt was made by the man himself!
Service was great, Louie answered all my questions and was very professional.
The shop has a nice decor, welcoming purple theme and was very clean.
There is no restroom as it is take out only so be mindful if you get the sudden urge to go.
The menu had other items I want to try so I’ll be back. Next time, when the urge for tuna melt strikes, I know...
