The Naked Farmer was founded by Jordan Johnson during the pandemic in 2020 because he wanted to "build a better food system for all" by connecting farms to a restaurant serving the food to people. According to their website Naked Farmer is a "farm-to-fork new American restaurant serving seasonal, locally-sourced food from farms close to home. Food is sourced from farmers and partners we know on a first-name basis, brought in from the fields, and cooked by chefs who know their vegetables." There are currently three restaurants open. The first two are in Tampa where the company is based and in St. Petersburg. The third opened in October in South Florida in Coral Gables. This location in Sunrise is their newest with plans to open on Las Olas in Ft. Lauderdale later this year.
The restaurant concept is to build-your-own bowl which allows you to customize your meal. You pick a protein, one base, two sides and your choice of (un)dressing. Around 70 percent of the ingredients are sourced from local farms. There was a board on the wall that listed the farm names and they included Cactus Hat in Lutz, Dakin Dairy in Myakka City, C& B Farm in Clewiston, Quincy Cattle Company in Chiefland, Natalie's Orchid in Fort Pierce, Gratitude Garden in Loxahatchee, and many more from Miami to Ocala. The Naked Farmer supports local agriculture while making healthy and tasty food available to everyone. The menu is designed around the harvest season and it changes every two months.
For my dinner I chose the rice base with grilled to order steak. Other proteins include chicken and salmon. It is very easy to eat vegetarian here. My two sides were broccoli and the seasonal strawberry fennel salad. They have water available but I also got one of their hibiscus lemonades. You can eat inside, on the patio, or take it to go. Every thing I tasted was super tasty and fresh. I was a little disappointed that they were out of the macaroni and cheese but I enjoyed the seasonal strawberry and fennel salad I got instead. Fennel is not something I would normally eat but I actually liked it in this salad. The strawberries were so sweet and they were like a dessert for me. Anyone who cares about what they are fueling their body with and where it comes from and who wants to eat better without sacrificing taste will love the...
Read moreFirst let me say the food options and taste of the food here is excellent.i was excited to find this place. I’ve been here several times and my family really likes it. But what I saw the other day bothered me. As I was finishing my food, I watched one of the workers ( the same person who gave us our food) pull out the trash can, proceed to fix the bad that kept coming off the opposite side so her gloved hands were all over the edges of the can and the bag. She pushed it back under and went behind the counter didn’t wash hands or change gloves. She stopped to talk to a coworker, put her hands on the counter, went over and started pushing the food around in the bowls with the spoons. I kept watching her she handed someone a takeout order, then proceeded to what looked like packing up a to go order, scooping food, grabbing the bowls and lids all with the same gloves. To be honest it grossed me out, I was bummed because I don’t know if I want to go back after that. I just don’t really think she thought twice about. Maybe she needs more training on food safety , I don’t know. My husband said to me I’m sure that happens more often than you think. I agree . But I’m not sure after watching that, I can go back. It just gave me an uneasy feeling. It kind of bummed me out because I do actually like...
Read moreAfter driving about 20 minutes to get here with high expectations for Naked Farmer, I was kind of let down and honestly shocked over my experience. It was 5:30pm today (Saturday) when I arrived and there were 5 staff members working but still a bunch of people waiting and about 5 people in line. The employee who helped me was kind, but as he was making my plate told me they were out of sweet potatoes and when I asked for steak he only gave me 4 rounds… when images show 5-6 slices. When I asked him for more steak a la carte he came back with two small golf ball sized pieces I kid you not and said he wasn’t going to charge me for it (no duh). But before that, he said that’s all he had left and he had to make my portion stretch. LIKE WHAT? SO YOU’RE TELLING ME TO MY FACE YOU HAD TO SKIMP MY PORTION WHEN IM PAYING 19$ for a plate and then wanting to spend more money on extra items??? It was mind blowing to me. Then one of the employees had his pants down to his butt so his colored underwear was exposed the whole time… not a pleasant site while waiting 8 min for my sweet potatoes. Besides that, I had higher expectations that they would be able to manage a food line much better and have things stocked so that my portion of protein would not have to be stretched. Great food though 10/10. Carrots were...
