On a Saturday night, lots of take out orders were getting picked up. We were there for an hour and a half. They were out of several things our party tried to order. One Indian food lover had to get a second choice drink and third choice entree - didn't want to take leftovers home. One non adventurous adult had a pretty good pizza. The appetizer was ok for everyone to have a bite that wanted one. Naan were large portions, we didn't need to order two for the group.
One adult spicy entree was good but didn't have much chicken. A vegetarian adult entree was ok, would have been better spicy but the children at the table refused to try it after the children's butter chicken (they've ordered and loved at various Indian restaurants in other places) was as spicy as the chicken Tikka masala one adult got (tasted like it too). Three adults agreed it was SPICY and not like butter chicken.
After bringing it up, we were told it doesn't come less spicy. They brought a naan pizza but the youngest refused anything but rice and the oldest child ate the naan pizza. Guess there was a mix up in the kitchen with the sauces or a take out order got the butter chicken?
Glad we tried it as 3 adults and a child were super excited but will likely not be back. Got there at 4:50, left...
Read moreI wish I could give this restaurant zero stars but alas I cannot. I’ve been to this restaurant twice. The first time was alright. Good food, poor atmosphere and service. The second time we went for their Valentine’s special meal. It was 125$ a person with a set menu. We had a reservation for 8:30-10. This was their time slot. We didn’t get our first bite of food until 9:15. And when I say bite I mean it. It was 5 courses and the first three we got were literal one bite options. We had about 4 bites of food served in 3 different courses and about a half glass of wine total which was also served over 3 courses. They also did not bring us one of the listed paired wines with the course. And when our main course finally arrived at 10pm it was markedly cold, which makes sense since we saw it sitting in the serving window long before it was brought to us. We ultimately decided to just leave and not eat it. And when They checked us out they said they couldn’t just charge us for what we actually had. So the bill was still 250$, even for the wine we were never served. This was the worst dining experience we have ever had. I suppose if you want to order pick up you may have a better experience. But their service and wait time...
Read moreMy dining experience at the newly opened Delhi Darling in Surf City was truly unforgettable. We indulged in their Popcorn Gobi, classic Butter Chicken, Lamb Biryani Pot Pie, and Jalapeño & Cheese Naan—all with mild spice (though this Irish girl still needed plenty of water!). Each dish was packed with such bold, unique flavors that stood out from the typical Indian fare, making it clear that this place is offering something special.
The Popcorn Gobi was a perfect appetizer—crispy, spiced, and addictive. The Butter Chicken was rich, creamy, and comforting, just how I like it. The Lamb Biryani Pot Pie was a fun, creative twist on traditional biryani, and the Jalapeño & Cheese Naan added the perfect kick without overwhelming the meal.
While the opening night had some minor growing pains, it was nothing that a kind and patient customer can’t overlook. The food was so delicious, it was well worth the wait! If you're feeling brave, venture outside your comfort zone and try something different from their menu. Delhi Darling promises a flavorful journey that’s sure to please. We’ll...
