A Deep Dish Disaster!
First Impressions:
Arguably the worst deep dish pizza and service I've experienced in years!
Where do I start? Let me start with the good stuff first. This was mine and some other family members' first time. The atmosphere was great. We were greeted promptly when we first arrived. The restaurant had a nice decor and overall vibe.
Service Struggles:
The staff was so-so. We had a small misunderstanding on the free kids' pizza and it wasn't handled with a great deal of decorum.
Erin! I hate to blast people out by name, and maybe this just wasn't her night and/or we just weren't her group. This should have been one of those rare moments I requested a new server. Erin was not at her best. She was curt and uninterested in helping with simple requests like napkins, refills, etc. (you know, the "her job" things).
The Capone Deep Dish Imposter:
My Capone Deep Dish. Don't let any promotional pictures or anyone fool you--this place does NOT serve deep dish! It's a Pizza Hut pan pizza with a high side crust. They limit to 4 toppings on a deep dish which is kinda standard. Mostly, it's only the sausage that has the greatest risk of not cooking through; but if constructed correctly, there's no problem with a few more toppings. It's a real joke that olive oil drizzle is considered a topping and Erin would not add it to my pizza order because the Capone would then have more than 4 toppings. I don't have this issue with Nancy's pizza and never has my deep dish not been cooked through at Nancy's.
That wasn't the big problem with my pizza. Mine was brought out looking as pictured (see attached photos) and I wasn't having it. No way they were about to pass that as a Chicago Deep Dish! I sent it back because she said it would only take 10 minutes to remake. When it took considerably longer and my family was boxing up their leftovers, at that point I had no appetite. When she brought the new pizza back, she visibly had an attitude and dropped the hot pan down on my hand (I moved fast enough to not get burned).
At that point...I wasn't eating or paying for another thing at this restaurant. It was late, the original offer took too long, my pizza couldn't be made the way I wanted it, and the pizza was laughably made incorrectly, I didn't want it.
The Final Straw:
Here's a kicker—when I told her that I changed my mind and didn't want anything, she was really fixing her lips to say I couldn't send it back. I didn't care to get her reasoning. I had to interrupt her, mid-sentence, to ask her again to get the manager because I was "hard stop" done with her. I was well frustrated by that time. The conclusion was I didn't keep or pay for the pizza.
The Invisible Manager:
My biggest problem is what I've saved for last. I had requested the GM to come out because we were not getting good service. The server (not Erin) came back and said that he said to tell us that he's a little busy, and he did not come out! That was the killer for me. Never coming back here again.
Final Thoughts:
I'm all for giving places a chance, but this was one chance too many. From the service mishaps to the pizza that couldn't decide if it was deep dish or deep disappointment, this place missed the mark. I wanted to love it, I really did. But as they say, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice – well, you won't get the chance.
To the Restaurant:
You've got potential, but you lost it in execution. It's not just about the food; it's about how you make people feel. And Thursday night? You made me feel like I'd rather eat...
Read moreThis was a pretty cool place. So let’s talk about the minus 1 star first. The pizza wasn’t too bad, but not necessarily 5 stars worth. So getting that outta the way let’s talk about the good stuff. Drinks: The drinks weren’t too shabby. They had a decent beer selection, though it was dominated by IPAs, so if that isn’t your thing then you’ll be limited. I had a smoked old fashion. It was pretty decent. You can certainly taste the smokiness of it. Watch the video for the making and delivery of it.
Pizza: Of course this is what they are known/ advertising, so we had to try it. The name are interesting as they resemble things of New York and Chicago. We prefer New York style because let’s face it…it’s the best. If you’re partial to Chicago style well then…no body is perfect. Anyway, we had the Time Square and the Cabby. The Time Square was fantastic. It had the right amount of seasoning and tastes delightful. The Cabby was interesting as it was made with mashed potatoes on it. We had to try it for that reason. It was good, but overall it wasn’t anything extraordinary. This was honestly the pizza that dropped it to 4 stars. If you never had it then give it a try. You may love it and think my review sucks, but to each their own.
Salads: So we ordered the Waldorf Salad and I have 1 word for it. WOW! Honestly I’d go back just to have that salad. The sweetness and nuttiness were perfect and the fried goat cheese balls on it were just that extra something that makes you want to have more.
Bathrooms: Ok I know this is an odd category, but hear me out. So I utilized the facilities there and I gotta say, best bathrooms EVER! So the bathrooms had a subway theme which made it interesting and entertaining at best. Instead of playing music while emptying your contents they had it seem like you were in a subway waiting to board or waiting to disembark. The cool thing is that they also had complimentary mouth wash. So if you’re there on a date and decides that garlic and onions will be the main flavor profile in your meal then you can run to the restroom real quick and freshen that breath so as not to scare away your date with an attempted goodnight kiss. If they’re still scared off…it wasn’t because of your breath. Keep that in mind.
Service: The bartender was amazing. She was very attentive and made sure that we got our drinks and food quickly. After the meal she gave us a coupon to get a free appetizer on our next visit since it was our first visit.
Overall: Definitely try this place. I think you’ll be pleased with the menu and...
Read moreI found the locstion while I was booking my hotel, and after viewing the menu, I wanted to be sure time was available to visit. I was there shortly after opening, so it was pretty quiet. Service was ok. I was greeted with a smile, and welcomed however, I had more interaction with the server to the table next to me, than my own. Had to wait awhile for server to return to collect payment after delivering the bill. I could understand if the place was busy, but there were only a couple tables being used, so I do not know what the delays were.
With all that being said, I will say overall the food was good. I was hoping they used a wood burning oven, to give that authentic char on the Pizzas, but use of the electric oven they were good Pizzas. Bacon crumbles were kinda small, and those would burn. Did not help the pizza for the most part, but the pieces which were a decent size, had a good flavor. The New York Style Cabbie is the pizza chosen. It was different, and would suggest have larger pieces of bacon, so they would not burn
Appetizers were the garlic Parm Fries, and the meatballs. In the case of the fries, they were nice and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Seasoned and on their own, they would be just fine. The shredded parmigian was a nice touch, but didn't really enhance the fries. Serving size could be a little bigger, but other than that, they were very tasty. The meatball was a little over done, but, it was decent. The sauce was not over seasoned, so you can taste the tomato. Plenty of sauce left over to dip your pizza crust afterwards.
I definitely recommend checking out the place if you are in any area near or around the northern Atlanta area. It will be worth it. I drove over 260 miles with a direct intent of visiting and I would...
