EDITED -- went back last week. Long (10 hour work day -- didn't feel like driving any distance -- just wanted to eat, get home and crash. At IHOP about at 3:30 p.m. Hostess/server (NOT Kyla, unfortunately) -- was engrossed in work behind the hostess stand -- after waiting a minute or so, I had to greet her to get her attention. Seated me in a section with three other customers.
Ordered a side salad -- which appeared to be taken from the hamburger condiments bin -- large palm-of-one's-hand-size leaves of iceberg lettuce topped with two thick slices of beefsteak tomato and two fine wisps of purple onion. "Salad" arrived overflowing a still-painfully- hot-from-the-dishwasher soup-plate. (Because who doesn't enjoy hot lettuce in their salad?) In order to reduce this concoction to bite-size pieces, I had to attack it with a knife and fork resulting in much of the contents sliding off the soup plate and on to the table. Gave up after a few mouthfuls -- turned my attention to the main also disappointing as the fish was was overcooked and chewy.
Server disappeared after meal delivery -- no check back to see if everything was okay. When she finally resurfaced, I asked for the check, paid and departed.
In retrospect I should have pushed myself and taken the time to drive to Ivars -- better food and customer service for less money. I understand now why the IHOP parking lot is largely empty every time I drive by. Unlikely to return. Best of luck to Kyla -- she's a gem -- I hope they appreciate her... Original post: Three of us (early 60s) went for dinner. There was no blaring music! We could hear ourselves talk. Kyla was our server -- personable, attentive, professional but not intrusive. Honestly, she has NO idea how close she came to being adopted and taken out of there -- she's an absolute treasure! We each ordered very different entrees and all three of us were VERY satisfied with our choices.
Clean surroundings, good food, atmosphere that made good conversation with good friends at a reasonable volume possible -- we will definitely be back -- actually decided we're going to pick a day (i.e third Thursday, second Tuesday,) and make this a...

Our recent trip to IHOP was kind of a letdown. We popped in on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, with just a handful of tables taken. But right off the bat, we noticed the floor was super sticky under our table, not exactly a great start for cleanliness.
Our server didn't seem too thrilled about serving us and had this kind of "meh" attitude the whole time. Even though they were doing free short stacks that day, we decided to grab an appetizer too. But as soon as our food was delivered by the manager, our server was asking if we were ready to pay. We'd barely been there 15 minutes, and hadn't taken a bite of food yet. When I tried to explain that we weren't done yet and wanted to use some points on the app to order another item. she brushed me off with a "I have nothing to do with the app" and walked away. Pretty frustrating, especially since the digital coupon clearly said to show it to our server.
The manager was checking on the tables asking how everything was going, so I found it a perfect time to ask about the coupon. But he just told me to tell our server. Talk about feeling brushed off again. Finally, when our server came back, I mentioned what the manager said, and she just told us to"wait until the end." It made me feel like I was bothering her or something.
We did eventually get to use the points and our item came, but honestly, it was more about the disappointing service than the food. IHOP's menu is pretty much the same everywhere, but this visit definitely left a sour taste...
Read moreMy husband and I arrived around 4pm Thursday August 15th and noticed there was one wait person covering the whole area of the restaurant that was open - 1/2 of the restaurant. It took some time to be seated; but after we were; our wait person was wonderful. She was extremely pleasant, took our order which was served In a surprisingly quick time. The food was spectacular!
Around 5pm our experience quickly declined. A male (whom I found out was the manager) started stomping around like a 3 year old throwing a temper tantrum. He pushed the door to the kitchen area until it hit the wall, and behaved the same way when he came back out then began throwing dishes as he cleared the tables and speaking very loud about his displeasure at needing to cover because of employees calling out.
When I asked my server if he was the manager, I was told he was. After listening to the manager’s ranting for at least ten minutes, I commented (loud enough for him to hear) that I didn’t appreciate him ruining our meal with his behavior. He commented back by loudly saying “this is how I work when people don’t show up and I need to do their work”.
No wonder employees don’t show up with a manager who cannot control his temper. I don’t think we will return to the S Union St IHop for a very long time. That is sad because the staff (except for this manager) was wonderful and the food...
