This place only deserves a star because the server was really nice. I was craving a hot bowl of pho and was in the Tacoma area at the time, so I looked up the nearest pho place. This restaurant was closest so I decided to go here. When I walked in, I was met with a very gross smell in the restaurant. It smelled like a used cat litter box to be honest which should have been my first sign to leave but I decided to just give it a shot. I ordered a large bowl of pho, gyoza and a coca cola. The pho was okay, I'd had better. The gyoza was pretty good. The server brought me a cup of ice water and a cup of ice for my soda. I poured my soda into the cup of ice and drank it. I do this thing where once I'm done with my soda and I'm left with ice, I pour my water into the cup of ice that once had my soda. I filled the cup of ice with the water and was going to drink the rest of the water that didn't fit in the other cup but I am so glad I didn't tip the cup all the way back to take a drink. I stopped midway into drinking because there were these white things floating at the bottom of my cup!!! I almost threw up because I was so close to drinking whatever that was!! I had to take a photo. I was so disgusted! This was the worst dining experience I've had. I went to the restroom just in case I had to throw up and I almost did. I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreThis is a beautiful and homey restaurant on a corner. The parking is beside the adjacent neighborhood street. The area isn't sketchy as some describe it; rather an area of many local ethnic businesses. It's out in the open so there shouldn't be any reserves about shady happenings around there.
I have visited this restaurant many times and wondered why I haven't given it any credit. The food is... so delicious and fresh. The cooking practices here are certainly refined to invoke the deepest use of ingredients. Sometimes you can even see one of the members snipping away at herbs for use. The pho(any of them) is a relaxing, anytime-after-stress experience that dissuades your discomfort from the day. The meat dishes are modest priced, appetite-sating, and so very fluent with fine accents of the spices within.
The staff are the example of what respectable food service attendants should exemplify. Any server immediately attends to you with hot tea and cold water for your preference, are so refined and polite with the suggestions and patience with some not very well-mannered patrons. The movements of the dishes have always been deft, careful to ensure food placement. The cleaning by the servers is chronic and they always make sure you leave with a great taste in your...
Read moreHate rating small family business with low stars, but everything about our experience was low. Right when we walked in we had to awkwardly find a table in the restaurant after one of the employees just looked at us and pointed to a table. Everything inside felt musty, smelled bad (not like a reg pho or Vietnamese restaurant), & the floor was so slippery & dirty. They did not check in with us at all until about 10 minutes after we sat down…
The pho was undeniably bland (I got the Chicken Pho, Spouse got the Beef Pho). It just tasted like instant soup powder with hardly any spices. The chicken in it was grilled chicken & ruined the already terrible soup. You could also tell they used bad tap water to make the soup because it gave it a weird after taste..
Vien Dong could make many improvements, as they seem to be very connected to the community. We visited because we were in the area & saw a video on IG about it, but it was such a let down. Maybe it was...
