Dates appetizer are amazing. Pizza is fine, but bland. This was our second time here, and we sat outside.
After 20 minutes waiting for a pizza, we found our server--who had disappeared--and asked where our pizza was. He looked surprised, went in the back, and came out with the old "printer stuck" trick. But, he said, they're making ours immediately and it will be out in three or four minutes! Fifteen minutes later it finally came. (Mind you the deck and the restaurant were half empty.)
We saw our waiter even less after that, but toward the end of our pizza another server apologized and asked if we wanted free dessert. Now 50 minutes into our Roscoe's adventure, we said yes.
Ten minutes later, no cake. I mean, if you offer free dessert because service is bad, you go in and get it and bring it out immediately. I went in to inquire, and the server who had offered us the cake said it was just coming out. I gave her a card, and asked if she could run the check so we could leave right after, and went back to our table outside.
Five minutes later, the server came out with the check and...no cake! We paid and left, but not before complaining and asking why no manager had come out to address the situation? It was truly terrible service.
Maybe Roscoe's is acceptable for a neighborhood joint, but it is certainly not a destination place. Between the average taste and poor service, this place wouldn't last three months anywhere else but Metro DC--where good pizza places are few and...
Read moreI dined here yesterday evening and the food was very good. However, our server seemed a bit distracted and didn't check in on our table very often. Also, when my pizza was being set down at the table, the guy setting it down dropped the pizza completely on my lap. The entire pizza was face down on my lap and also on the floor, and the guy seemed much more concerned with cleaning the floor than making sure I was okay. He seemed nice enough, maybe he was frazzled, but he didn't even ask if the pizza burned me, and I don't recall him formally apologizing either. There was this awkward silence as he tried to clean up the area. I volunteered the information that I wasn't burned, moreso in an effort to cut the awkward tension because he didn't ask if I was okay. It honestly just really confused me because I would be profusely apologizing if I did something like that.
The check came and I was disappointed to see they kept the pizza on the check. I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but if something like this happens, maybe comp that item in good faith? Or comp something at least? I just felt the need to post it this because it has been weighing on my mind since yesterday. I understand people are human and mistakes happen, that is totally fine. But maybe train your people to focus harder on making sure the customer is okay before rushing to clean the floors when food gets...
Read moreEdit: After a conversation with the manager, we decided to give it another try and were glad to see that things are back to normal. I updated my three-star review to a five star. Go eat at Roscoe's!
....... We go to Roscoe's frequently and our recent trip was disappointing.
We ordered a bottle of sparkling water and it was brought to the table and left there. Normally the server would offer to pour it. Never mind except it was hard to open the bottle,.. but we got there.
We ordered smoked salmon crostini, for which we asked for plates so we could share. It. Took about 15 minutes to get the plates. The crostini itself was soft to start with and got soggy sitting there until the plates came. Got through it but it was meh.
We had the pappardelle with chicken added. The sauce was overpowering and had a bitter aftertaste, I've had this before and it wasn't so. We couldn't get through much of the dish. We had asked for chicken on top, and that was dry. Disappointed, because we love to eat at Roscoe's.
We ordered an arugula salad which was great as usual.
If it were not our neighborhood restaurant, I wouldn't go back. But since it is, I'll probably try it again. Hopefully it was...
