I am firmly against the idea that the best version of a dish is to be found in its country of origin (actually, one could debate whether ramen is Japanese or Chinese!), but I haven't yet been impressed with any ramen I've tried in Tallahassee. People do like the ramen at the local restaurants, so I think that what I believe holds true: your particular tastes matter most. I am not a huge Japanese food connoisseur, but I've had some darned fine ramen in Japan and I just can't deny it suited my taste far more--even at chains. I think the thing that fails my husband and I's tests most is the soup, possibly the most important part. I've tried making tonkotsu at home, and it always ends up having a strong, overtly meat flavor that isn't smooth. This is the same at this restaurant and Ur-Bowl. I preferred soup in the vegetable ramen but it wasn't notable. The presentation was better than expected. However, the vegetable toppings felt a bit chaotic. I like broccoli, but it is weird in ramen. I'd rather have more bok choy, or just a ton of green onions. I did like the ginger on top, though, as ginger is usually a more interesting win for me. Bamboo shoots are very subjective and I gave mine to husbando. We had a side of edamame in the shell, and they were salted well. The melon boba was good. I didn't care for the service style of counter pickup, but the cashier was nice. The food came out quickly, too. The restaurant is new and clean. I think for the quality, it felt overpriced, but I know restaurants usually price how they feel is fair for business. I think I'll make my own ramen and look forward to our next trip...
Read moreQuality and cleanliness is maintained. The store is neat and clean. The ambience is great, inviting and calm. The front desk people are friendly and welcoming. Basically, you order the food at the counter and when the food is ready they will page you with the buzzer. You go pick up the food and eat. When done you go and dump it out in the trash. Typical fast food style place, not an actual serving style restaurant. For that matter, I feel the prices don’t do justice overall. Food is good but not great. I have been to many of the Noodle bar restaurants in town and felt the food taste could be improved a bit compared to all of them. The prices are high for the food portion being offered. Overall, with a few exceptions it is a good place with room to be improved for long term...
Read moreFresh spring rolls- I'm confused. It's has shredded salad mix and no noodles. The peanut sauce is warm peanut butter with whole peanuts in it. I'm used to a chunky sauce with crushed peanuts. Not chunky peanut butter heated.
The short ribs are flavorful. However, the cuts are trash (little meat, fatty and tough). They are cut up in these weird triangles. It appears that they took a regular short rib and cut it three ways to make it look like more food. I can see short ribs hanging on by fat from where it was cut off.
Is this a...
