It pains me to write this because I have never, nor I want to, feel the need to write a bad review for a business---and I have had plenty of situations like anyone else where perhaps one was justified. But this situation was just too outrageous and personal. This cafe is near my school and well enjoyed by my classmates here, and I enjoyed their food and appreciated their eco-conscious approach since I started. Outside of the main complaint I am about to make, for whatever reason, I have a feeling that this business price gouges, compared to other business of a similar nature who do not charge so much nor have such a long wait time for their food, ie. Felicitous, Kalesia Tea Lounge, Cafe Hey, Loving Hut, and Raw Rawk Star bar. Now, I am not trying to defile this owner's character, I am just going to explain what occurred. I went there on my break at school to have some lunch with my girlfriend and our friend. After she arrived and ordered her 3 dollar scone, I told her I was skeptical about it tasting good because I never really had a good 'scone'. My girlfriend actually disagreed and told me how confident she was that the scone she ordered was going to be delicious, since she saw it was made the same way in New Zealand cafes that she loved. She took a bite and instantly knew she didn't like it. How could anyone help not liking something you're eating? Especially if you were LOOKING FORWARD to eating it? After expressing this to the manger, she asked her if she could exchange the scone for another, like you would at virtually any place of business that you eat at. After agreeing, my girlfriend returned and assumed that all was well. The 3 dollar scone would be exchanged for another. When the new scone was made, the manger asked her 'who' was going to pay for the original, as if that was even a question. Surprised that the manager suggested that she would have to pay for the 3 dollar scone she didn't even like, as well as the new one, my girlfriend like anyone else didn't think that was fair, stating that normally when you're unable to eat the food because it's unpalatable at a cafe or restaurant, you can exchange it for another. The manager, God knows why, then started to blatantly and grossly demean my girlfriend. She asked her how old she was. My girlfriend, very reasonably, responded what does that have to do with anything. She then proceeded to tell her that when she 'grew up' that she could could come here and eat because this is how 'she paid her bills'. My girlfriend is 34 years old. She assumed she was an irresponsible, naive young teenager that didn't know about the facts of life because she found a THREE DOLLAR scone inedible. Mind you, all of this was shouted at her from across the room, in front of everybody for all to hear. My girlfriend, and of course myself and our friend, was totally shocked by such an ugly display of rudeness and promptly left. After that, our friend, waiting for a bagel for almost ten minutes, had an ear full from the owner herself as to why she was so justified in disparaging and attempting to humiliate her customer for trying to exchange a 3 dollar scone she couldn't eat. After he told her that he was a local she gave him the scone she wanted the original exchange for to give to my girlfriend, saying that she can come back. Yeah.... Right. We were just totally aghast. Being locals and lovers of all things Seminole Heights, as well as our friends, this exchange has and will continue to be shared with close friends, most of which are locals and lovers of Seminole. Without a doubt more than a handful of people will not be able to go there anymore because of such a rude, aggressive, and unnecessary exchange. I hope the owner can take responsibility and learn from this. I wish the best for her. Like I said, this is the only 'bad' review I've ever done, and it wasn't done eagerly. There's a lot of better things I could be doing...
Read moreI had this place saved in my Yelp collections based on other reviews. I finally got to try it and WHOA! Before I even dive into the coffee and the food, let me just say that Jessica (the owner) is so friendly and welcoming. You can tell that she truly enjoys running this place and takes so much pride in it (as she should!).
Okay, drink time. I ordered the signature Cafe Borgia. YUM! It is a latte with sweet and smooth hints of honey, orange blossom, and nutmeg. Everyone needs to try this at least once. There are plenty of milk options too. From what I recall, she had organic milk, oat milk, soy milk, and almond milk.
My boyfriend and I were in the mood to split some food so we chose "The Coach" sandwich. The first words out of his mouth were "ohhhhh this is life changing" with his eyes closed. The first words out of my mouth were "what kind of delicious sorcery is this?" Y'all.. these flavors and textures are INCREDIBLE! The turkey is so thin and melts with the gouda into a deliciously smoky combo. The garlic aioli (yep, GARLIC AIOLI!) on the toasted ciabatta.. chef's kiss! I love that it was served with a side of fresh fruit and a little spinach, tomato, onion salad (that you could easily put on top of the sammy for some extra nutrients) with a cup of potato salad.
There is plenty of street parking. The shop itself is in a house. Walk up the steps and use the door on the left. There is some inside seating but the porch and outdoor seating provides such a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. I can't wait for the weather to cool off a little bit so I can grab a coffee, another one of those sandwiches(!) and relax with...
Read moreI have never left a bad review for any business. I understand that some things are out of their control but I have to say something.
I came in with my husband and spent 50$ including a 10$ tip for service. Of this experience that is probably my biggest regret. My husband ordered the sconewich, which stated it had bacon, eggs, etc. First of all its not sconewich it's a scone with eggs thrown on top and absolutely no bacon to be found. When we brought this up to the owner she snapped back its very popular and if I wanted I could spend more money on another item. I've never had an experience where I sent back an item and was changed for it and not offered something else. The owner told me to write this review so here I am...
I really wanted to like this place, cool atmosphere, but really the food is extremely mediocre. The salads are pre-made like the grab and go at the airport... the bagel with salmon I got for $14 was okay and only had cream cheese on one side??????
Really disappointing considering I'm new to the area but I really hope that if you want to eat something in the area pick from ANY of the other amazing places. We should have waiting in...
