Casey is an incredible speech therapist, parent coach, and person and the work that she and her team do is truly life changing. I randomly stumbled across Casey and her practice Speak Outside the Box on Instagram last year. My son has some pretty complex communication needs as well as another disability. At the time, even though we were working with many other professionals, we came to Casey feeling “stuck” in how to best support our son’s language, communication, motivation, and engagement. We live several hours away, but Casey immediately responded to my inquiries and we began virtual parent coaching services to learn how to best support our son in his communication. We also enrolled in her Play Better Intensive course which was phenomenal. Casey is one of the first professionals we’ve worked with who it has felt effortlessly sees and understands our son. She is so insightful, intentional, and supportive in coming up with creative ways of meeting him where he is at in communication through play. Through her guidance we have gained so much understanding into how our son’s brain learns, processes, and develops language, as well as more confidence in our own ability to engage and motivate him through play by placing connection at the forefront of all that we do. Casey has also been instrumental in coaching us through incorporating low tech AAC options for us to use while we’ve been trialing higher tech AAC options to find the right fit, which has been so huge for our son. We have learned and are continuing to learn so much from her, we can’t recommend Casey enough! I don't know where to begin this review and immediately teared up at the thought of how incredibly thankful I am for Casey coming into our lives. At first, I resisted in my head her methods for teaching us how to engage with our son (videotaping our play sessions and going over the footage). But what bloomed was not only speech, but my son's confidence in communicating. Casey's method also gave us constant, gentle reminders on how to engage deeply with our child that we wanted to help communicate so desperately but didn't know how. Casey, and then eventually other members of the team, taught us that. We have gone on to work with other SLPs and OT in her group and they all have her same presence and commitment and ENERGY! We do the summer speech play groups and those have helped our son with social speech tremendously, like learning how to soothe a friend who is crying or share toys with friends (and the speech that goes along with that). The whole team is so full of love and commitment, and they truly enjoy and respect the kids and the parents. It's a beautiful thing.
