Delicious! Best pancakes and burgers we've had in a long time!!! Now they take credit cards! UPDATED Review for 2023: We came back again after Gasparilla, because it was that good, and we ordered the same food because IT WAS THAT GOOD! The pancakes were still hot and sizzly when I got them, the eggs were scrambled well, the bacon was still +1 too crispy for me (but still delicious). I was able to eat all but 1/4 of the pancakes (and I was starving!) I was happy to see that they started taking credit cards, too, which is great. Also, their menus are no longer under glass on the tables (that may have been for Covid). ORIGINAL Review from 2022: Found this little gem when I was craving breakfast-for-lunch, after running Gasparilla this year. At first, I was truly skeptical... Outside looked a little "ho-hum" and there were signs everywhere that they only take cash. When we walked in, it was warm (like the heater was still on but not needed kind of warm). We got a well-worn booth, that has the menus under glass at each table (great idea!) The waitress was cheerful, but not overly cheerful, which I prefer. Our drinks were brought out quickly, and or full orders taken quickly after that. It was fun to watch the interplay between all of the staff, be it the lady behind the register, or the lovely older gentleman who held the door for so many, or the guys in the back whipping up delicious food! My pancakes were so hot when they got to my table that the butter SIZZLED when I put it on! It was amazing to watch... I've never gotten an order that quickly before. And they were... HEAVENLY! The perfect pancake flavor. No extra malty or funky flavors. Just delicious pancake perfection. The bacon was about +1 too crispy for my liking, but still great. I added on a single scrambled egg for extra protein, and the best I can say (and this is a compliment, though it sounds weird) is that it was the best plain ol' scrambled egg I've had in a long time. It was scrambled nicely (no whites sticking out anywhere), not too firm, not too runny. I ate all my egg and bacon, but sadly ran out of steam about 2/3 of the way through the pancakes... My partner got a Ham & Cheese Burger, which we thought was going to be a Hot Ham & Cheese Sandwich, but it was an actual burger with ham and cheese on it... SO GOOD! Who knew?! The burger was cooked to perfection. The fries were spot on. He enjoyed every single bite of his lunch, too! This is a GEM of a restaurant that I can't wait to revisit next time I'm in Tampa!

Looking for a 'Mom' & Pop breakfast on the way home from the airport. Found Mom's Place. I was flying solo along Dale Mabry. This was my first time behind a fork here. I definitely got the old-time diner feel. In fact, I almost expected Alice to step around the corner to a rousing Flo's "Mel, kiss my grits!". Of course, who knows if Mel could cook? Right away I noted this place is CASH ONLY. Fortunately I did have some cash on me. I'm not real crazy about cash only in today's world. I get the notion the merchant just doesn't want to pay the bank fees. Taking cards is way more convenient for the customers and therefore should be the norm. My server, Julia, was efficient and polite but wasn't into chit chat. She would do a 'Is everything okay?' fly-by, which I find disconcerting. Instead of folks getting whiplash trying to whip out a reply on the fly, it's much better to stop, in front of the customer, while inquiring and wait for the response. I ordered the Greek Popeye Omelette, with feta and spinach. I make a spectacular version at home, so I know what to expect... I was surprised to see the feta simply sprinkled on top of the finished omelette. By putting the feta on the outside, after cooking, you miss the melt. You lose the flavor combinations of the fats, oils and the spinach melding into a bouquet of Mediterranean flavor. For me, this was a big miss. The egg and spinach cooked together formed a semi-solid omelette block that just didn't impress. The hash browns were okay. I left thinking there were quite a few other places nearby I could've visited for breakfast. Meals should be more than just the act of eating. The first meal of the day sets the tone for the rest of the day. You are 'breaking fast' after your night's slumber. At Mom's Place, I got fed. Period.

From the outside it looks like a typical diner and inside has an 80s decor accented by autographed sports photographs and a pop 70s radio station playing in the background. You'd never know that their primary menu is Greek and every day has a different special. For example, Mondays is spinach pie (Spanakopita) day, on alternate Tuesdays stuffed cabbage is served and every other week it's stuffed peppers. Fridays bring a lamb shank special (but they were out of it by the time I got there). Weekends it's all about the breakfast, with an abundant morning menu. I ordered the Bacon and 2 Egg Breakfast ($6.25). It was okay. The sunny side eggs are perfectly cooked (a deal maker/breaker in my book), but the bacon is thin and chewy. The accompanying hash brown potatoes are undercooked and whole wheat toast is a store-bought brand. An order for Diet Coke brought an unqualified Diet Pepsi. Servers are numerous and chipper. Mom's is a family restaurant owned by the same crew for over 30 years. Regulars are greeted like, well, family. Breakfast is served all day (except waffle service stops in the morning). They are open until 3:00 pm every day, and it's cash only (with an ATM that costs $2.50 to use on site). But with a breakfast tab of a little over $8, Mom's is going on the Cheap Eats list for sure.

Sorry. Customer service was lacking. Judy G. (Our waitress)was so confrontational and actually combative when we asked a question about our bill. We knew when she first came over when we got there that she was a little cranky; we actually said to each other,‘she’s probably upset she has to work on Sunday’s’. She was horrible to talk to, she also proceeded to talk about us to another waitress, right in front of us after we asked her about our bill! Not good. Ruined the entire experience for us. Went for breakfast; which is ok. Nothing outstanding, but it’s local & quick. Husband asked for French toast with breakfast, instead of regular toast. Judy said there’s an up charge for it; we said no problem. In fact, we asked for the French toast as a completely separate meal. We got the ‘3rd meal’ of French toast; it had 3 toasts on it. No problem. But was also charged for the upgrade on his breakfast for additional French toast! It’s not the money; don’t care. It’s the fact when I asked Judy G. About the upcharge, she flipped out; saying the breakfast doesn’t come with French toast; that they have to charge us. We know this! But where is the extra French toast? Never received it or any bread item with that breakfast. In fact, the amount charged didn’t even match the menu price; says she has to put the tax on an added item. Makes no sense. She rambled; wanted to raise her voice so other customers can hear her, without really understanding what we were asking. And never got the extra French toast, or even a piece of bread for his meal. Judy never recognized the issue; just kept on saying they have to charge us. Not the sharpest tool & oh, so cranky. Wow. Horrible customer service. Never have I ever had to ‘argue’ with a waitress & actually watch her go talk about us to another waitress. Bye bye Mom’s. Plenty of great other choices for breakfast. No one needs to argue with waitresses. She acted like we were trying to get something for free? Yeah. Not good....

I have been coming here for almost 15 years and never had an issue with food quality or service until the last few months with new ownership. I never thought I would ever give this place anything less than a 5. I am seeing my favorite waitresses less and less each weekend I come in and I don’t know if they are leaving or hours are being reduced- this doesn’t seem okay. The quality of food is not the same- cheap coffee, cheap eggs, cheap toast, cheap meat etc. The prices have also been increased and its messed up if you give cheap quality. If you increase the prices then keep the good quality we know and love. This place has been around for so long that loyal customer base is diminishing. I come here for family feel and good food. On top of that our party found 3 bugs within a matter of minutes at our table and the previous owners were thrown under the bus. I did not like that! I know the previous owners and never once did we encounter a bug or anything like this in 15 years. It’s upsetting on multiple levels. I gave the new ownership a chance and was even willing to give one more after our bad service and low quality food experience BUT the live bugs and dead one on the floor turned my stomach and I’m probably never coming back. I don’t see how any of the loyal customers who knew what an amazing place moms was would remain after some of these things because it’s not the same. I am happy the previous owners get to focus on not working but I miss them so much because this would not have flown. They would not blame others like I witnessed today. Ownership would have been taken. I will be looking for a new weekend breakfast spot because I can’t see how I can give this place my business any longer. It’s very saddening having to write this but it was not resolved by just giving me my...
