Thoughtful, Warm Service—But Flavor Left Me Wanting ⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ (3 out of 5)
We learned about this place via a recent local news mention. My visit to The Dough Show on a packed Sunday afternoon was met with welcoming smiles, prompt service, and a beautiful atmosphere. Despite the peak traffic, our food arrived hot and fresh at the table within minutes—impressive by any standard. The team members were polite, helpful, and clearly working hard to provide a positive experience. The interior space had a clean, vibrant charm to it, and the generous portion sizes—especially for the feteer—were appreciated.
However, while the presentation and service were excellent, the flavor left something to be desired. I grew up eating Lebanese-style shawarma and have spent time enjoying halal street food from New York to the UK, as well as family-owned Mediterranean spots here in Tampa, Temple Terrace, and Ybor. Compared to those experiences, the seasoning and overall flavor here felt surprisingly muted—almost neutral.
The shawarma wrap, though tightly rolled and well-structured, was lacking in the punch of flavor I associate with good toum, tart pickles, and well-marinated meat. The fries, however, were classic and delicious. The feteer, while visually appealing and portion-heavy, was weighed down by an excessive amount of oil that took away from the experience. The shatta they offered, while appreciated, reminded me more of a mild cantina salsa than the bold, fresh chili paste I was hoping for.
I understand that regional interpretations of Mediterranean and Levantine dishes vary, and The Dough Show may be aiming for a broader, perhaps more Americanized, palate. If that’s the case, they’ve succeeded in creating a friendly, approachable menu. But for someone seeking the sharper, deeper flavor profiles found in traditional street-style shawarma or doner across Europe or the Middle East (specifically Saudi), it may fall a bit flat.
To be clear, none of these critiques come from malice—this feels like a new restaurant still finding its groove. The heart is there: the staff cares, the environment is inviting, and the kitchen is efficient. With time, I hope the flavor catches up to the execution. Until then, it’s a decent option with room to grow.
A few final notes: • Parking was difficult. • The Pepsi fountain was out of ice and Pepsi Zero during our visit. • Portion size for the shawarma wrap was on the small side compared to similarly priced options around town.
I genuinely look forward to returning in the future to see how the menu evolves. The foundation is solid—now it’s just about dialing in the flavor. If anything, I’d say it just needed more time to marinate, as I’ve made a similar flavor by making this mistake. The effort, care, and concept are clearly there—just waiting for the seasoning...
Read moreThe most delicious thing about this business is their profit margins. What do I mean by that? Let me explain.
We ordered shawarma for two people. Paid 23$. We received two cut up rolls that were kid sized. Did not feel like an entree - felt more like an appetizer behind hidden inflation. Did I mention our "sauce" was liquid yogurt in a tiny plastic container, and it wasn't even full halfway. It was nasty and bottom line intolerable.
We then ordered their chicken kebab. It comes in a small plate of 4 chicken pieces under two paper thin pita pieces, with a few shavings of raw onion.
When I asked for their "juice" they charged me 7$ for the bottle. I figured I would be drinking some delicious blend or a secret recipe, but no. It was literally blended pineapple, NOT juice. So they did not filter any pulp, since that wouldn't fill the bottle as quick. Thick chunky slober that I couldn't drink properly (almost choked!) with my food. No juices, no blends, no secret recipe. Just high $$$ profit margins.
If you want actual shawarma with generous portions sizes, free drink, free fries, free vegetables, free full section of garlic sauce, all for 11$, go down the road to shawarma elshami. The only thing that Dough show has is some of their breads and the larger room to sit for families. Will not be coming back anytime soon.
EDIT: The owner as usual is replying with a heavy defensive line. What I said is an absolute fact, and to clarify - you can buy a full pineapple for 2.88$ in Sam's club. But they BLEND (NOT JUICE) half a pineapple into a bottle so you can swallow those chunks and charge you 7$.
No additives? No artificial flavors? Oh I'm sure there's none of that, especially if you just throw a piece of fruit in the blender. If those who read this don't believe me, you will realize this the hard way.
The owner's pockets must be deep in cash! Mmm he is making good money and will intimidate you to try and think otherwise. Do not be fooled by people like this. I will change my review to 1 star now, they...

My recent visit to The Dough Show in Tampa was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we walked in, the energy and aroma of authentic Egyptian flavors had us excited. We ordered the shawarma bowl and double shawarma bites, and both dishes exceeded our expectations.
The shawarma bowl was packed with juicy, perfectly marinated beef (or chicken—both options are available) that had been slow-roasted with aromatic spices. The meat was tender, flavorful, and paired wonderfully with fresh veggies, creamy tahini, and fluffy rice. Every bite was a burst of Middle Eastern goodness!
As for the double shawarma bites, they were crispy on the outside, succulent on the inside, and served with a delicious dipping sauce. The portion size was generous, making it a great shareable appetizer or a satisfying meal on its own.
What really stood out was the quality and authenticity of the food—everything is 100% Halal and made with fresh ingredients . The staff was also incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring we had a great dining experience.
The atmosphere was lively, and the open kitchen let us catch glimpses of the chefs skillfully preparing dishes, including their famous feteer pies (which we’ll definitely try next time!). The restaurant’s late-night hours (open until 1 AM on weekends!) make it a perfect spot for post-dinner cravings or a fun group hangout .
If you’re in Tampa and craving bold, flavorful Middle Eastern cuisine, The Dough Show is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back for more shawarma and to try their legendary desserts like the banana-custard feteer pie! 10/10 recommend!
