Restaurant Review of Dimitri's in Tarpon Springs, Florida My visit to Dimitri's last Sunday evening started promisingly with a sunset dinner. The establishment exuded sophistication, from impeccable service to exquisite food presentation and outstanding quality. However, what could have been an exceptional dining experience was marred by a significant oversight: the presence of a patron's dog inside the restaurant. Let's start with the positives. Dimitri's ambiance is delightful, especially during sunset hours, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed evening meal. The service was attentive, and the dishes served were not only well-presented but also delicious, reflecting the care put into their preparation. Unfortunately, the evening took an unexpected turn when a diner decided to bring their dog into and through the restaurant. This action, in my view, was disrespectful to the other patrons. Dining at a fine establishment entails a certain level of decorum and consideration for fellow diners. While pets are cherished companions, there's a time and place for their presence, and a high-end restaurant during dinner service isn't it. The intrusion of the dog detracted from the otherwise enjoyable atmosphere. It's not merely an issue of personal preference; it's also a matter of hygiene and etiquette. Patrons paying premium prices for their meals, as my companion and I were, expect a certain standard of dining environment—one that doesn't include unexpected encounters with animals. To be clear, this isn't solely about the dog itself but rather the principle of respecting the dining space and the experience of all guests. Dining out is a social activity that should be enjoyable for everyone present, and that includes being considerate of others' preferences and sensitivities. Regrettably, Dimitri's apparent acceptance of this situation suggests a lapse in their standards and consideration for their patrons. As a result, despite the otherwise commendable aspects of our visit, my companion and I have decided not to return to Dimitri's. It's disappointing that such a simple oversight could overshadow an otherwise pleasant evening and lead to the loss of potential future patrons. In conclusion, while Dimitri's offers much to appreciate, the unfortunate incident involving a patron's dog has left a lasting negative impression. For those who value a serene dining atmosphere free of unexpected distractions, this is a factor worth considering before choosing Dimitri's for your next dining experience unless they enact a dogs not allowed policy.

One of my friends and I were out at the Sponge Docks, and stopped here to eat. We're both teens, and most everyone else eating here were middle aged or older. I do not know if that is why we were treated the way we were but it was the only thing my friend and I could figure out. Firstly when we entered, the man who ended up being our server, said in an uninterested and bothered tone, "Do you guys need something?" We weren't really expecting this kind of greeting but we, originally, weren't going to think much of it and responded, "we would like to get seated, please." He then said "oh, okay. How many?" as he rolled his eyes. We said it was just the two of us and he seated us. Again, we didn't really want to think too hard about it and just hoped the food would be good and we would be served like everyone else. Looking around it seemed like they served bread baskets like most the other restaurants in the sponge docks. So when our server came back with the drinks we ordered, we were expecting a bread basket as well. He did not bring one so I asked if they served bread here, he proceeded to say that it is an extra cost that we would have to order as a side. I found this a bit unexpected, and after he walked away I decided to ask one of the other servers walking by. She said that they do in fact serve bread, and not as a side. I asked her if she could bring us some, she then said that our server is supposed to come with the bread for us. Not wanting to cause any trouble, I did not inform her of what our server said. At this point my friend and I just wanted to eat and leave. We ordered a gyro each, and when our server came over with them they looked good. Unfortunately, turns out they were a bit on the oily side, and I've personally never had a gyro that oily. It was dripping all over my hands and plate. My friend was pretty disappointed too, as they personally really love gyros. They agreed with me, that the gyro was oily and tasted off. I don't know if it was just a bad day, or if this is how it usually is. Personally I do not wish to eat there again.

Whenever I am in FL visiting my father, we go to Dimitri’s so he can have his smelt and I can have a gyro. It has always been a great experience and fantastic food. Tonight we went and ordered our usual, plus drinks and dessert to go. His smelt were great but we thought it odd that he also had calamari in with the smelt….he’s not a fan of calamari. He also had the lemon potatoes that were really good. I had the rosemary chickpeas with my gyro and it was my first time having them…they were great. The gyro was less than mediocre….which is so unusual. I kept smelling something “off” and kept asking my dad if his smelt were good. Then after taking a few bites of my gyro, I realized the smell was coming from that. The smell reminded me of rancid oil. The tomato, onion and tsaziki sauce seemed to taste fine….so I couldn’t place whether it was the meat, oil or the pita. Regardless, I only had a few bites and just finished my chickpeas, which were amazing. Also, we’re home now and my stomach is churning. I’m definitely not feeling well and am certain the gyro is not agreeing with me. Because of the way I’m feeling right now, my brain is saying ‘we’re never going back there’, but it’s always been a favorite place of ours. Maybe it’s time to visit some other restaurants in Tarpon Springs…

The food here is amazing! Everything was super fresh and flavorful! My friends and I ordered Saganaki (we asked for pita with it), Skordalia with fried zucchini and eggplant. My entree was Calamari and it was perfectly cooked, not chewy. However, the service left a lot to be desired. None of our food was timed right. We had taken a couple bites of the appetizers and then our salads came out. Probably not even 5 minutes later our entrees arrived and we ran out of room on the table. To the point where my friends were handing back their salads just because there was no room to eat it. So be prepared that the food here comes out super fast! Then when it came time to pay, the waiter lost my credit card when he brought the receipt back. I was looking everywhere around our table in case it had fallen out. We told the waiter and he went looking for it, thankfully someone had turned it in at the front and he handed me my card. The waiter did not seem to care that this happened. Now, would I go back? Probably. The food was amazing, but I'll probably just pay with cash next time.

A Greek chef moved to Tarpon Springs a decade ago and maintains a string of Greek restaurants in the area. The Tarpon Springs Dimitri's is at the sponge docks, with the outdoor dining porch looking down into the dark waters of the Anclote river. Quite a pleasant venue. The next table over was throwing their bread over the railing into the water, causing sudden frothing as a group of catfish, some quite large, churned the surface. There were boats trolling by and waving to the diners. At this restaurant, you can park your boat and bring in your catch and the kitchen will prepare it for you. Appetizer: exquisite slabs of feta cheese coated with herb infused olive oil and festooned with kalamata olives.🫒 Lemon sauce drenched roasted potatoes. Broiled fresh grouper, and large gulf shrimp 🍤 battered in the kitchen with a light crispy coating reminiscent of tempura . Sauteed dandelion greens called " Horta". A Greek mojito. Homemade baklava tasting of nutmeg & cinnamon. A delightful experience and I'm going back just to try all the genuine Greek appetizers.

We went back to Dimitri’s and this time the service was excellent! We will be back! We went to Dimitri's for dinner on Saturday, February 15, 2020 and had a very disappointing experience. We arrived at the restaurant around 5:15 pm before the dinner crowd rush. We were seated at a nice table by the windows overlooking the Anclote River and were promptly greeted by our server, however, that is where things went terribly wrong! After ordering drinks, appetizer and meals, some 45 minutes went by and the restaurant filled up with patrons, plus, a long line at the door. I signaled our waiter to the table and asked him what was taking so long to bring the appetizer and he shook his head as if he didn't know and turned his back on us to take an order at another table. Moments later people at another table next to us who had recently sat down had food delivered to their table. At this point we decided to leave and I informed the waiter that I left money on the table to cover the drinks. I will not go back to Dimitri's anytime soon!
