If you're planning to try this place, consider doing this outside rush or peak hours. This place gets super busy and crowded. We got here early afternoon on Sunday and it was just packed. As a party of 2 though, we got a table in like 10 min; while larger parties had to wait quite a bit.
Without a doubt, they handle these volumes well and they are ready for it. There is a lot of staff, and no one was messing around. Waiting for the table close to kitchen door, I was just watching servers coming out of it with these big trays, like 6-8 plates on each; and they were going, and going, and going :) Smells so good by the way, burns up the appetite!
The food. For sure we got the Greek salad. It reads "Original" Greek salad on the menu, so I did not even go further reading what does it come with. I was really surprised to find a scoop of potato salad under the greens pile, I didn't even get what it was, until I got back to the menu and checked. Second thing, instead of the olive oil, it comes with homemade dressing, which was absolutely delicious. Overall, the salad was fantastic, but I find that word "Original" on the menu a little bit misleading. I also got that pie combo, Spanakopita (spinach) and Tiropita (cheese blend). Either one tasted great, just melting in the mouth. A little tip here: get tzatziki sauce, it pairs perfectly. These pies came with 3 different sides by default, rice, potato and beans. The latter were yet remarkable, if they were on a side menu, I would recommend getting them (but they're not and idk the proper name for it). My girlfriend's Pan Fried Calamari also came with same 3 sides by the way, so get extra sides only when you see how much your main course comes with:)
Service. We were given an estimate of 15min wait for the table, but got it sooner. Our server Soula, was very professional and knew menu well. I also heard her explaining to a gentleman next to us the entire process of cooking something, so looks like she knows the drill. She also warned us about the sizes of the order, because initially we were planning to get bigger salad and one extra side. She also got me a free sample of a random menu item upon my request no questiones asked. However, she forgot to bring over side olives and sprite; in this case it did not matter much because we got literally full, but if it was something person may crave for, one can get disappointed.
As a conclusion, the place is great, and the entire Greek street is great. We loved it a lot, and In case I get to Tarpon Springs again, I will step by and try...
Read moreThis place is amazing! Our Greek friend sent us with a list of required treats from Hellas Bakery. We purchased Coconut Pasta, Chocolate Kok and Baklava as instructed. Next we headed into Hellas Restaurant. We ordered the Avgolemomo Soup (Lemon Soup) also recommended by Friend Steve. It is a light chicken, egg and lemon soup with orzo pasta and comes with Greek Bread and seasoned olive oil for dipping. Fantastic! Soup was so delicious with the most subtle delicate lemon flavor. My friend got the Gyro and pronounced it, very good and homemade Taziki sauce, excellent! I chose the Grouper Sandwich and switched my fries for potato salad. Potato Salad was delicious with light dressing and a few nice crunchy chopped veggies. I am usually a mustard potato salad fan, but this was good with great fresh potato flavor.
The Grouper Sandwich was a lovely, thick filet, perfectly fried, crunchy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. Sandwich came on a nice toasted bun with lettuce and tomato. I skipped the tartar sauce and added some Taziki to my sandwich and it was great!
Our Server, Kevin, was friendly, helpful and attentive which made our lunch even better. The whole dining experience was exceptional!
Fully sated, the bakery goods were enjoyed the next day but everything from the bakery was amazing. Rich Chocolate Kok was chocolate sponge cake wedges, sandwiched with a light chocolate filling and rich, dark chocolate icing on top. Coconut Pasta was a delicious moist yellow cake with white (poss buttercream?) frosting and a very generous topping of toasted coconut. Baklava was traditional with toasted Philo dough and very fresh nuts and honey in the layers. Sticky and wonderful!
Grateful thanks to our friend Steve for his recommendation. We will make Helllas Restaurant & Bakery a required stop in this area.
Highly recommend Hellas Restaurant and Bakery! ...
Read moreIt had been some time since we last visited. I'm sorry that we haven't been more often. Noah was our server, and an absolute gem.
He brought sufficient water for everyone without being asked, on a hot day. A welcome refreshment. We were a party of five. We started with the saganaki, and he provided the full flaming show. We also had the cold plate, cold grilled octopus (good flavor, and not overcooked), cold peeled shrimp (perfectly cooked and seasoned), Tzaziki, skordalia, and taramasalata. All homemade, and excellent. Olives, cucumber, tomato, and pepperocini pepper.
I had the grilled riblets, cooked, and seasoned perfectly, and horiatiki salad and fresh, good tomato, and cucumber. The dressing was perfect.
Mom had the grilled Mediterranean seafood platter, and had no complaints. She also had a brandy (Metaxa), it was a generous portion, and tasty.
My husband had the keftedes, he actually prefers Greek meatballs to regular Italian, or IKEA meatballs, not as heavy.
My in-laws had an gyro, and chicken souvlaki. Both enjoyed their sandwiches. They also had the house special Greek mojito, and enjoyed it.
The dessert menu has many pages, and everything was as delicious as it looked. No bad choices, something for every craving.
On the way out we saw the catch of the day, it looked wonderful! As full as we were, we wanted that fish. We've had it in the past, and it was magnificently memorable. Their catch of the day, is truly fresh, simply prepared, and fantastic to eat.
Nice atmosphere, food, and service. Views of the docks and river from the front of...
