I recently had the misfortune of dining at Costas Restaurant, and I must say that it was a truly dreadful experience. From the moment I walked through the door until the minute I left, everything about this place was an absolute disaster. I wouldn't wish this restaurant on my worst enemy.
First and foremost, let's talk about the service. It was abysmal. The staff seemed completely disinterested in their jobs and had zero knowledge of basic hospitality. They were rude, inattentive, and took an eternity to bring out our orders. It was as if they were doing us a favor by allowing us to eat at their establishment. I've never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant before.
Now, let's move on to the food. I don't even know where to begin. The menu boasted of authentic Greek cuisine, but what was served to us was far from it. The dishes were tasteless, bland, and lacking any sort of creativity. It felt like they had taken shortcuts with the ingredients, using cheap substitutes and pre-packaged sauces. The souvlaki was dry and overcooked, the moussaka was a mushy mess, and the dolmades were simply repulsive.
To make matters worse, the portions were tiny and extremely overpriced. We left the restaurant feeling hungry and completely ripped off. I understand that quality comes at a price, but this was outright robbery. I would have gladly paid more for a decent meal elsewhere.
The ambiance of Costas Restaurant was equally disappointing. The interior was outdated and poorly maintained. The tables were sticky, the chairs were uncomfortable, and the overall cleanliness was questionable. It felt like stepping into a time warp from the 1980s, and not in a charming, nostalgic way.
In conclusion, I cannot stress enough how much of a disappointment Costas Restaurant was. From the abysmal service to the tasteless and overpriced food, this place was a complete disaster. I strongly advise anyone considering dining here to save their money and go elsewhere. There are far better Greek restaurants in town that actually live up to their promises of authentic cuisine and welcoming atmosphere. Costas Restaurant is a disgrace to the Greek...
Read moreTarpon Springs is an interesting place to visit. There's an odd mix of tourists, locals, and out-of-towners that keeps the area feeling like a tourist trap, but still maintains a certain local charm.
Being a settlement of the Greeks back in the day for sponge diving, there is certainly no shortage of Greek themed food establishments. Yeah, some famous named TV chef endorses this one restaurant, and some slightly famous food video blogger raves about another, blah blah.
But there is a nice, slightly off the path gem called Costa's right there in the center of town.
First, the service. perfect every time. Nice, friendly, and prompt.
Second, the prices are very reasonable.
Third, the food is quite simply the best Greek/Mediterranean cuisine on the planet. Portions are more than sufficient to satisfy the largest appetites.
Always start with the Saganaki (flaming cheese). We've had so many wonderful dishes here. The Mousaka will blow your mind! The lamb shank can almost feed two. The Souvlaki (chicken or pork) is so juicy and tender and comes with a ton of garnishes.
Their Greek salad is a work of art and comes with a dressing that nears a religious experience.
Let's talk Gyro meat for a second. There are so many variations and recipes for a good Gyro. But, Costa's has the absolute best Gyro meat on the planet. The seasonings aren't over bearing and the meat is always glistening with juices and so very tender.
When in Tarpon Springs, get away from the dolphin cruise barkers and redundant tourist gift shops for a bit and sit your butt down at Costa's for grub. You will NOT leave hungry, guaranteed.
I would recommend doing a dolphin cruise, BEFORE eating though. There are no public facilities on Anclote Island and the accommodations on the dolphin cruises would be less than desirable for any...
Read moreWe ate lunch here yesterday. (Party of 4) A man standing on corner of main strip handed us a menu and said a glass of wine/ sangria or baklava is free if you give them this coupon. We were having trouble deciding where to go so we decided to give it a shot. A young teenage looking guy sat us. We sat there for about 10 minutes before anyone came over to us. The young man came over and asked what we wanted to drink. I showed him the coupon and asked if this was valid for a free sangria. “Yes” he said. We placed our drink orders and he brought them back fairly quickly. Our waitress was decent but obviously was over whelmed with too many tables. The food was not bad but meh. The sangria was ok but tasted very diluted. I didn’t finish even half. I had to ask for the bill 3 times and the waitress brought it over. It was a green ticket with just what we had ordered written down. The man behind the bar was EXTREMELY rude. He was speaking to the 2 servers (both older women) like dogs! Doing so loud enough for customers to hear. I felt very sorry for them. Sat there another 5 minutes or so with dirty plates covering the table. I finally walked up to the rude man behind the bar and asked if I pay here. “Yep!” Was his curt response. I handed him the flyer with the coupon. He took it- tossed it aside and said $90.52. I handed him my card and he ran it- as I went to sign I asked if he gad taken the sangria off with the coupon. “Nope! They are 2 for 1! This is for free baklava” That’s not what it said but I was so over it by now. “Did your waitress bring you baklava?” She did not. Needless to say we will not be back. I’m in the food and beverage business and can assure you I will not spend my hard earned money to be treated so poorly and...
