Wow ! this place has gone down hill in a short period of time. I am not sure if it was sold to someone else who is running it to the ground or what.
After Chef Andreas and Owner sadly passed a few years ago, the food mainained it's quality for a while. His recipes were adhered to for a while. Not anymore folks. I went there this evening with my Greek mom who is a great Greek chef also who also previosly praised the food here.
One of out favorite dishes is the "Youvetsi" baked lamb shank w/orzo. They were all out, which happens. Then I moved to my second favorite lamb dish, the Lamb Fricasee for me and Mom to share as the portion is massive.
We got our bread basket and lackluster side salad with very little olive oil dressing. I asked the server for olive oil on multiple occasions to no avail. I gave up.
After about 1/2 hour the prized dish was served. What a joke it was. The lamb shanks were baked en masse and way overcokked and dry as beef jerkey. The egg lemon fricasse sauce is then poured over the piping hot cooked endives and lamb shank producing this massive delectable dish of succulent lamb coupled by boiled endives drencehd over the cooked lamb.
This dish sauce should be a rich creamy egg lemon immulsion. Instead the Nykonos kitchen brought out an strange inedable version of it. It seemed to me that they just poured avgolemono soup over it and called it a day. The creamy texture of the fricasse has been replace by blandness
I hope Andreas son Demetrios can figure it out, unless he sold the business, because the food there now in no longer authentic and is just another tourist trap that used to have a great reputation
Terrible service. + Terrible food = No return date. You fool me once and you will never fool me again.
Good buy old friend Mykonos, and thanks to the late Chef Andreas for bringing the real deal to the sponge docks for many decades. Mayyou rest in peace friend.
We will not return unless we hear a news flash that that they have improved.
Howabout hiring a real Greek Chef?...
Read moreI visited Mykonos for the first time and am happy to give 5 stars for their amazing dishes and excellent quality of service.
This restaurant is situated in the heart of a lovely Greek town, Tarpon Spring. I was visiting from California and wanted to try a local taste. Having done a google search, I picked up two candidates to try. I decided to go for Mykonos over the other one because someone wrote a review "THE BEST restaurant in the area."
Once I open the entrance, the decor welcomed me with a stunning mix of traditional and modern with an accommodating atmosphere. Tables provide a view of the chef working in the kitchen. We visited the restaurant for an early dinner (around 4PM) without reservation. Because it was the weekend, we expected to wait outside; however, we had a table right away.
The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and mains that will appeal to youngsters and adults alike. I had my favorite traditional Greek dishes - Skordalia (garlic spread) and Lamb fricassee (fresh lamb steak with lemon dill source). They were all exquisite! Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. I could tell that they use the best quality ingredients to produce dishes that are simply delightful. Great portion well enough to share with two people. The service was way beyond my expectation. The restaurant owner visited every table and greeted her guests, which I found quite professional and welcoming. Little dessert from the house was a lovely surprise after the meal.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this restaurant. I'm so glad that I trusted someone's review and gave it a try with Mykonos. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is brilliant. Now I'm back in California, but I already miss the place! I will definitely come back to explore further the surprising...
Read moreAlright ... my rating is lower than most, but it’s accurate for my experience.
My wife and I visited the Sponge Docks and after some shopping, we were both pretty hungry. We experienced some pretty good customer service wherever we went that day, until we arrived at Mykonos. Our customer service experience was fair at bad. Our waitress wasn’t happy and wasn’t that attentive. Her attitude was really matter of fact. That’s okay. It wasn’t poor and she could have been having a bad or long day.
Also, the decor is not outstanding but it’s all serviceable.
When we arrived, the restaurant was only moderately busy. There were a number of tables opened and we quickly found a seat (for smaller parties you seat yourself). When we left, the pace was slammed. Two large parties (group of 8 and 10 arrived).
After we were seated it took a few moments but someone eventually came over. Someone brought our drinks and brought us bread.
A couple observations. Our water must have come straight from the tap. It tasted bad. I ended up ordering a Diet Pepsi since I just couldn’t drink the water. My wife and I also ended up ordering some Greek wine to really immerse ourselves in the experience. Also, the bread included a white and wheat bread. The wheat bread just wasn’t as fresh as the white bread (but it wasn’t stale).
The saving grace was my order of lamb chops, which I ordered cooked to medium. While a couple were cooked to medium well, no complaints there. The dish came with 5! lamb chops. I could barely eat it all.
My wife was not a huge fan of the chicken shish kebabs, which we both expected to be on skewers. It arrived laid out on a plate.
All in all, our experience was good. My lamb chops were great and we left stuffed. With that said, we’ll likely check out a different restaurant next...
