I’ll start by saying that I have been a regular customer of Pizza Papalis for at least ten years. It seems like I have been watching the price of these pizzas increase steadily, which is fine with me as long as I am steadily receiving the same product. Unfortunately that is not the case. The price is increasing and the pizza seems to be getting smaller and smaller. The Chicago style anyway.
I took a party of ten in on Halloween night after Trick or Treating. Everyone was hungry. We ordered two Chicago style deep dish pizzas with pepperoni, one thin crust with pepperoni, and 30 chicken wings. The wings were on special for 60¢ each. The wings were fine. The thin crust pizza was as expected. But the two Chicago style pizzas were visibly off when they arrived at the table. Before we even served the first slice I asked the waitress if the pizzas looked normal to her. I explained that these looked nothing like what I’m used to being served. Her response was, “I don’t know, I have only been working here about two weeks. But let me know if they don’t taste right because the kitchen has been off tonight.” I was hoping maybe that she would send a manager over but I didn’t request it. I looked around to try to identify someone who may be a manager but there was nobody in the floor that looked the part. They must have been short handed and whoever was the manager must have also been acting as a server or simply just stayed out of site. The place was pretty empty so there I don’t see why a manger wouldn’t have stopped by our table to check in. That seems the norm at restaurants these days anyway.
Now we ordered a lot of pizza. We routinely do that for two reasons. First the deep dish takes 45 minutes to bake usually. So if we don’t have enough it’s not like we can simply order another. Second, we like to have one to take home and heat up another night. And usually we have a whole pie left to take home as we did tonight. But I almost left that pizza on the table at the restaurant because those two Chicago style pizzas were terrible. A pizza that I once was happy to pay $27.95 for each, I would now gladly trade for a $5 Hot N Ready. This will likely be our last visit to Pizza Papalis. I don’t like leaving one star reviews. But it’s been 6 1/2 hours since I left there and I’m still upset about it so maybe this...
Read moreOverall had a bad experience!! When we walked in there was people all setting in one corner of the floor. When there was open seating all over. But we did not say anything about it we sat down are server gave us are menus. He took our order for are drinks and left. Then you had the busboy walking back and forth to the corner where his bin is. He bumps in to us matuble times nocks my fathers hat on to the ground and just kept walking!!! And again we said nothing are server comes back takes are order turns to leave and knocked my fathers hat off the char he picks it up and says sorry and puts it back on the char. we thanked him once he is gone we moved the hat to the bottom of the chair under the table so it's safe. Now we have are food it's great and we are watching the tv Xmoter cross or some thing then you have the busboy come up trying to change the channel we tell him no he looks at us the continus to change all the TV's to the super bowl buy now there are not as many customers and there are lots of TV's in there they all don't have to be on the same channel!!! So we finish eating our surver boxes are food for us we thank him then pay. Then you have the busboy again cleaning a large table that a party was at. He gathers all the drinks and starts to carry them by hand four to five cups in each hand to the corner past us he drops all the cups and gets pop all over my father his coat and on the hat again he walks away are surver comes over and asks if we want at towel and starts helping wipe pop off of are stuff. The manager never showed up to the table after the drinks were spilled. Not even a sorry from the bus boy. Also the place is way over staffed there were groups of three or four people just sitting around doing nothing!! Food was good but the service is why I will...
