I started working at honey baked ham back in the 80's this was my first store.I learned how to process, an we double smoked the hams back then still a great business, but more Pride was Given back in the Old day's when we double smoked and processed the hams ourselves in the back rooms !! We smoked the hams, hung them in the coolers, till they was firm enough, so we could put them on the slicer. And spiral slice them to the proper thickness to where the slices looked beautiful back then. Really beautiful back then. When they was Dou, more smokey flabor and when we was able to glaze them !! I kind of had a reputation because I knew how to double glaze. The hams to where there was a thicker coating of the glaze. I actually had a couple of customers back when I was working the Dearborn store. Bring their hams back because they said they could not get through the glaze that the manager asked me to stop blazing that way. !?!? When I was working in the front selling the products to the customers, they mostly ask for it.They any way you could make the glaze sticker.Or can you or do you bottle and solid glaze?Because they wanted more glades on their hams. So I was doing that i was just. Giving the customers what they was askingfor .Thicker and more Glaze !! I do miss glazing hams and working there at the holiday times i had an accident, I'm in a wheelchair now so no standing for Me !! But I'm working on That Rehabilitation !! Quite a few of the holiday help when they would buy hams for themselves towards the end of the holiday, they would say Billy, can you glaze my ham for me? I want you to put the Glaze on Thick !! I had a couple of customers once while I was up front. I just came from the back and I glazed a few Pam when they was looking at the hams and a notice to glaze. Billing, really nice and thick. One lady was off to the side and she said all that glaze. Looks so good. I'm buying a whole Turkey though. Can you glaze my Turkey like that? I looked at the manager at the time. And he said if she wants it blaze, go ahead and glaze it.I said you really want it glazed. She said yes so she prepaid for the her turkey I took it to the back I Glazed the back side of her Turkey waited for it to harder up then turned it to the top side at the Breastside up !! I Put a few coats of Glaze on Top a Thick flowing like lava over it waited for it to harder then is wrapped it up for her properly took it to her !! She looked it over and she thanked me so much. She said I love it !! I said well. Please don't be upset if you get home and you can't get into the Turkey !! She said don't worry about that.We eat the glaze, i said well , you have a lot there to be able to eat because I gave you plenty of Glaze on your Turkey !!
O k i'm done I bugged everybody enough but I really miss working at honey baked ham !! Here's a kicker.I work for honeybaked off and on for a few years, but also to let you know.Honey baked ham fired me twice over my year's totally a different story but the true part is.I did a very good and positive thing for them back in the day and somebody took the kudos for it !! And then they asked me for other ideas back in the day but I wouldn't give it to them even though I still have my couple of ideas !! Yes they fired me but they always hired me back because I did my job and I did my job very well !! It sad at times, some people in positions, Can't see the positive and good things about individuals that works for THEM !!! P.S. when the original Honey Baked Ham opened in Canton I was there helping an processing and glazing hams in the back when they first opened that store.I was going between dearborn and canton at the time !! All this while I was working my real full time job's Driving Bus for a private company, an doing My duty as a Detroit Police Reserve Officer, Retired SgtBates 309 !! 22 year's of Service with the City of Detroit !! Another part of my life i miss doing helping the citizens that I come in touch with on a daily basis when I was...
Read moreThis place was recommended to me for Christmas because I work extremely a lot and didn't have time to prepare a meal from scratch. I ordered the Cajun turkey, ribs, macaroni and cheese, smashed sweet potatoes, scalloped potatoes, loaded mashed potatoes, string bean casserole, a pecan pie and a carrot cake. To my surprise everything was extremely good. Of course the mac and cheese won't be like what you're probably used to but it's doable. The carrot cake was decent, definitely not the best I ever had. Their cream cheese was more on the mild side with it not being too sweet which works for some people. The Cajun turkey had taste throughout. I baked mine for 3 hours instead of what the instructions said and it came out perfectly fine. I put the ribs in the oven in a cast iron skillet and those were immaculate. This place was so good that I would probably come here to eat whenever I don't feel like cooking just in general. Thanks honey baked ham place I I'm very pleased with your food. I wish I could have taken a picture of everything before we tore it up! Also if you are feeding four or more people I would go with extra sides. I had one of everything for three people and we were able to...
Read moreGM was super nice. Workers did not seem happy to be there whatsoever. I ordered a roasted tomato and cheddar sandwich which was mostly bread. Wasn't even toasted even though the description said it was served warm. I was half way through the sandwich when i noticed mold!! Not sure how you would miss this preparing the food.. Hoping I didn't have any on the half I had already eaten. UGH. When I first arrived I was given mac and cheese for free after speaking about it with the GM. Very nice of them but it is super bland. Won't be coming back. I can get a better sandwich next door at Panera for the same price and better quality. My work also received cookies from them as an advertisement and the cookies were not cooked...
