As per my previous bagel shop review, I am serious when it comes to bagels. I'm a native New Yorker born and raised to appreciate a great bagel. I have nearly half a century of bagel noshing under my belt and when I tell you that this was the Best everything bagel with chicken salad (toasted) I have ever eaten please know that I mean it. The bagel itself was toasted with a slight crunch and was generously hugged with everything seasoning, the center bread was so soft that it melted in my mouth. This bagel was made to perfection. The chicken salad was a whole other celebration! The right amount of mayo, seasoning, fresh generous portions of white meat chicken and omg celery! The chicken salad is so delicious that I had to pause and rethink whether or not I had given thanks. Then there was the plain bagel with walnut/raisin spread - uhm do I have to explain, rather let's just say that this combo satisfied every morning desire in every bite. The bagel although plain has a distinct taste that screamed old time NYC deli. The spread was perfect in texture with the right amount of walnuts, honey to raisins ratio. Adding to the sweet was that necessary cream cheese smooth tartness that never stopped giving with each mouthful. The 3rd sandwich was a classic sausage, egg and cheese (SEC) on a roll. I get this sandwich all the time in various NYC corner bodegas but after trying this one I now wonder if I've ever really had one. The eggs were freshly scrambled aesthetically layered and topped with expertly melted cheese, the sausage patty was then placed creating a perfect fusion of sausage egg and cheese nirvana. This SEC quite possibly has ruined all other SEC for me. Absolute perfection. We also tried a fudge crumb cake, it appeared to be very dense but upon tasting it I was surprised when the center (filled with dark chocolate) actually melted in my mouth! I'm not too big of a fan of sweets and this treat didn't change me. It was good, but didn't stand out. The service was A1 the guy who served me was pleasant and very welcoming and definitely knew how to make a sandwich. The older gentleman was kind enough to make us 2 coffees (light sweet with creamer) I usually drink my coffee black with 1 sugar but boy was I satisfied with my coffee, nice and strong with the perfect amount of cream and sugar. I highly recommend this place, in fact I suggest you go out of your way as this place is...
Read moreOwner is nasty - actually yelled at me and spoke to me in a very condescending voice in front of my 6 year old daughter for asking another employee to help me when the first employee who took my order got busy helping their previous customer who needed something else. After five minutes watching the employee who took my order do nothing with my order because they were busy helping their previous customer, I asked for help from one of the other two employees who were not busy at the time (just waiting for new customers to come in). The owner got irrationally irate, getting himself all worked up and started yelling at me for no reason - saying that I can't ask someone else to help me other than who I placed my order with. I said I only did so because the first person got unexpectedly busy again with his previous customer and the person I asked was available and indeed happy to help me. He condescendingly said/yelled who do I think I am trying to run his business and then refused to serve me. This was all while I was holding my 6 year old daughter, not to mention in front of other customers. The employees mouthed "sorry" to me as I walked out and vowed never to return. My daughter got very upset from this experience asking why he was yelling at me, to which I said he must not have been feeling well but that is no excuse to treat anyone, especially a long time customer, so horribly. I can count with one hand the number of reviews I have made online. This experience was so disturbing that I felt compelled to write this. There are a lot of good bagel shops around this area. This place does not deserve your business. All of my family and friends refuse to go there after hearing this story. I urge you to...
Read moreIn the beginning, the old gentleman whom I think is the owner is welcoming. He attended to my needs and all. I sat by the window with my laptop as I eat my bagel and drink my hot coffee. I've been at the table for about 38 minutes until he approached me and asked what time I plan to leave. The manner he delivered those words were kind of rude and he seemed condescending. He said that they need the table BUT to think that no one was there but me. There were plenty of empty tables which could probably sit about 20 person. I could understand if the place was busy and people don't have a table but there were none. I was just sitting at that little corner (my laptop is not even plugged to the outlet so I am not utilizing their electricity).
I was excited to try out this place since I read good reviews. The bagel were good but the man was just rude. Poor management. I don't want to play a race card but I'm unsure if me being an Asian plays a role that provoked him to cast me out. Unless the man is just plain rude.
I should have just picked up food instead, now I am left with a bad experience. So just a heads up for anyone who would be dining or staying there, be mindful that you will be asked to leave.
Bagel was good by the way. ...
