I wanted to have a nice date night with my wife and go out for dinner. She really likes Spanish food, so I chose to try Bolero at Europa Winery.
Driving up was beautiful, and the property is very well kept. We had reservations outside for 745p, so the sun was starting to come down. Their outside area is really nice and is walled in so the wind doesn't bother you.
We were quickly led to our seats and we reviewed the menu. There was a candle at the table, but it wasn't lit. Other tables had theirs lit and some didn't. Not a big deal but it caught my eye and I considered this place to be a bit fancier than a normal restaurant. We ended up ordering the Bolero Paella, some empanadas, three styles of Spanish ham and three types of Spanish cheese with some fruit, honey, and nuts.
The empanadas were slightly undercooked so they tasted really doughy. I just had a few bites. The sauce thay came with it was good though.
The ham and cheeses board was really good. At first, they only brought us the cheese and we had to wait for the waitress to bring the ham. I guess she had misheard or forgotten. Again, not a big deal, but I consider this place to be a bit fancier so just things to note.
The paella was okay. I've had worse and had better. The filet mignon in it was cooked really well. They used ground Spanish chorizo. I was looking forward to slices of it. Again, not a big issue on its own, but I wish the description would have stated that.
For dessert, I got a coconut flan and my wife ordered churros with a dark chocolate dip. They brought me a banana brulee and my wife her churros. I asked the waitress why that was brought out ans she apologized and said she had brulee on the brain. Then she said we could keep it ans she would pack it up for us. Awesome, I thought!
So my coconut flan arrives and it's inside a half a coconut. The flan had a really strong coconut flavor instead of hints or notes of coconut. So if you really like coconut, you'll love it..lol. I also noticed that the meat of the coconut had been cut away. I tried to eat some of the coconut meat, but it tasted like something may have been left on the knife or maybe the meat was going bad. It tasted like poison, lol. I googled it later and it said that l, that taste is due to the coconut starting to spoil or getting moldy. The meat was also really rubbery and you couldn't really cut into it.
My wife's churros tasted like they had been fried in grease used to fry chicken. She has one and just left it. So the dessert was a bust. I did eat my flan though. I like coconut and the strong flavor didnt bother me.
Once we got the bill, I saw that they STILL charged me for the brulee. Ha!
Needless to say that this will be my first and last time trying Bolero. I might still try the winery. I had sangria and it was delicious. My wife had a red wine and it was the best red wine shes ever had. Makes sense since they're a winery, lol.
The waitress was nice enough amd was pleasant. Maybe it was because it was the end of the night she was off her game. If it had been a regular restaurant, her service would have been just fine. Again. I felt this was a more upscale place and the service just didn't line up with the expectation.
Our bill was $214. I never complain to the waitresses or send food back. She was lovely, but my expectation just didn't match up.
We'll try Luke's on Front...

What was supposed to be excitement with my best friends and I gathered at Bolero Restaurant to celebrate my special day became anything but exciting. What was meant to be a night of joyous festivities at the Europa winery quickly turned into a nightmare, all thanks to the abysmal customer service we received.
Upon arrival, the ambiance of the restaurant seemed promising—a charming atmosphere with soft lighting and an inviting decor. Eager to continue the celebrations, we settled into our table and eagerly perused the menu, contemplating which delectable dishes and tantalizing cocktails to indulge in.
However, our enthusiasm was short-lived as we encountered our first hurdle: the staff's unwarranted assumption that we were "too drunk" to order any more drinks. Despite exhibiting no signs of excessive intoxication, we were abruptly cut off from ordering any additional beverages until “we had some food in our system”. Mind you, we were at a winery….!! This assumption was not only unfounded but also incredibly insulting, as it cast a shadow over what was meant to be a joyous occasion.
Leaving us feeling neglected and disheartened on what should have been a memorable evening… I asked for the manager named Joey who was absolutely disrespectful and made the poor assumption that because I slurred that meant I was BELLIGERENT! We then spoke to the restaurant manager named La Mae who didn’t make things any better and that is when we decided only 20 minutes into being seated that we were going to leave the restaurant because they did NOT deserve our business with them.
As the night drew to a close, we couldn't help but feel utterly disappointed by our experience at Bolero Restaurant. What was meant to be a celebratory occasion turned into a debacle marred by atrocious customer service. It's truly disheartening to witness such a lack of professionalism and hospitality in an establishment that prides itself on providing exceptional dining experiences.
In conclusion, I would strongly advise against patronizing Bolero Restaurant if you value quality service and culinary excellence and if you are at the winery prior, they will probably accuse you of being too drunk as well to be served another beverage. Save yourself the disappointment and seek out a dining establishment that values its customers and treats them with the RESPECT and courtesy...
Read moreI wasn't really sure how to rate this place. Reading other reviews it sounds pretty consistent with other's experiences.... Inconsistent service, mediocre food, and unjustified high prices.
We stayed on the property and ate here 3 times. We first tried dinner. The food was just okay, small portions, and came out at various intervals (tapas style), making dinner a lot longer than we wanted. We never really felt taken care of. We would have ordered more food, but the server was AWOL. In the end, we wanted dessert, but our server dropped the check and never came back. We literally waited 20 minutes. We had to take it up to the manager to pay so we could leave. It was our anniversary dinner, so it made a lasting impression. The manager was very nice and brought us a bottle of wine to our room.
The next morning, we had breakfast. The server, Mikaela, was amazing. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had steak and eggs. The steak came out burnt and tasted like it had never been seasoned or salted. For the first time in a long time, I had to send back a steak. The second one came out slightly better cooked, but again, no flavor or seasoning. Mikaela brought us a special house spicey sauce that made up for the lack of flavor.
We had breakfast again the following morning. We ordered the steak and eggs again. This time, I purposely ordered the steak less cooked than before. It came out cooked properly, but again, no flavor (SMH). This time the steak was a lot smaller, leaving me hungry. So disappointing. Service this time was just okay. We had a different waitress.
With regards to the ambiance, I think the restaurant is pretty. The patio seems like an afterthought. The ground is pitched or slanted in a way that makes it very uncomfortable to sit in a chair because you feel like you are in a recliner. I also think they can do a better job with lighting and make it a more romantic setting. But if they can't get the food right, I don't think making any changes to the patio will do much good. As for the inside, it perpetually smells like Piaya. As long as you like seafood, it's not a big deal. But definitely noticeable.
All in all, I was really looking forward to dining here. It just didn't come together for us to want to recommend this place to friends or want...
