Quick Summary Food: Incredibly Bland, Delivery: Good (GrubHub), Order Fulfillment: Abysmal, Dispute: Complicated. Verdict: Avoid this place.
Food: We ordered two large dishes (kung pao chicken and broccoli beef, added cost option) with added spice, one normal dish (steamed tofu/veggies) with added spice, and three sauces (that accompany the tofu dish).
We received three normal-sized entrees in shallow containers - nothing was large, only the kung pao chicken was somewhat seasoned (but not spicy at all) and there was only one sauce. The Mandarin House of Tempe claimed to GrubHub that they only sell regular-sized entrees so we had very little food to split for our group. Food lack any seasoning and was incredibly bland. As they did not include the spicy sauce requested, nothing could be corrected when it was received. The brown rice is edible but overcooked and mushy.
Pictured: 3 small entrées (~1.5- 2cups in each), 3 containers of brown rice, one house special sauce container.
Ordering/Fulfillment: we placed our order through GrubHub which was easy enough. The issue arises when there are addons: I request the larger more expensive option and only receive a regular sized dish. GrubHub initiates a dispute on my behalf and the restaurant rebuts that they only supply one size take out container and that is only regular size. So instead of using two containers for a larger order, they only send the single, smaller size.
Dispute: I do not want to fight for my food. If I order a large, give me a large. Mandarin House... if you do not want to sell large meals, then fix your menus and ordering options. If I request spice and you do not want to add it into the dish, then at least supply a side of chili sauce. Mandarin House only refunded $2 for the incorrect sizes but it was an ordeal. Plus, I was left with three entrees where only one could be readily eaten but to split between a group? It was wholly inadequate.
Upsides: the food, while bland was at least fresh and the assortment of vegetables was really good. I think with any kind of added seasoning during the cooking process, it will be great to eat. The kung pao chicken was the most flavorful/edible dish of those ordered (as pictured, we had already dug in before I snapped the lineup). The entrée and sauce containers are reusable and recyclable.
Verdict: If you despise seasoning and like to receive less than you paid for then the Mandarin House is for you. For anyone with taste buds and a desire to receive exactly what you order, then avoid the Mandarin...
Read moreWe had been regulars when it was Wong's Place. Even though some of the same people work at Mandarin House the food has changed and has been disappointing. Since Mandarin House took over we had ordered from there twice and we were disappointed both times. It had been a few years since we had ordered from there and thought we'd give it one more try. The potstickers reminded me of the ones I buy frozen at the grocery store. They taste ok but if I wanted those I had some in my freezer. However the potsticker sauce is very tasty. My dining companion enjoyed the hot and sour soup. For entrees we had House Chow Mein and Sweet and Sour Pork. The noodles in the Chow Mein were mushy and the pork was very dry and tasted old. The Sweet and Sour Pork was not what we were expecting. Generally there are onions and bell peppers (and sometimes other vegetables) along with the pork. This was just fried battered pork nuggets with a side of sweet and sour. I do have to say that the portions are huge and priced reasonably. When I arrived to pick up the order it was ready and hot. There was no one in the restaurant on a Saturday during dinner time which surprised me. The third time was not a charm. We will...
Read moreMy family and I stumbled on this treasure on grub hub. The food was excellent for a decent price. But let me tell you about the outstanding service. I order orange chicken for my small children so I asked for the sauce to be put on the side. It was very very close to closing time and our order was pretty large. The sauce was accidentally put on the chicken so the woman managing at the time tried to get our driver from grub hub to come back and when the driver wouldn't she called me directly to tell us what happened before our order even got to us. The fact the woman was willing to call and admit the mistake and make sure everything would be ok... that's good customer service in my book. To error is human and they admitted the mistake before I was even aware of it. The food was absolutely wonderful but the service is why I will be coming back...
