My wife and I were excited to try a new lunch spot when we came across smokey mos BBQ. Upon entering the inside is very well laid out and very nice. The menu was interesting and had many mouth watering meals. I opted for the slice brisket with potatoes bacon and cheese, and my wife got the pulled brisket sandwich. When the food arrived her sandwich was pretty plain, just a bun with an everywhere or slightly below average amount of pulled brisket. If you're used to bucee's brisket, you'll be disappointed in the portions here. He sandwich actually tasted good. I don't know what happened with my sliced brisket, but it was by far the worst I have ever had. They might as well have just heated up a slab of fat cause that's basically what I got. 4 it 5 slices of 80% fat and some brisket crusted ends. It wasn't like you could trim the fat off either, it was rampant through out the entire slice. Extremely disappointing and nauseating. For the nearly $28 we paid for lunch we were expecting much more. The place looks great inside, menu is appetizing, portions leave much to be desired. Maybe this was an off day or something, but when you let them know it's your first time dining there you would think they would try to make a...
Read moreI went there first time with my Family of four. We love brisket and sausage, so we ordered just that and what we got was small portions and very dry brisket. Wasn’t very happy for having spent about $90. I told myself I would give it another try considering it was newly opened.
We went back about a month and a half later to give it another shot. This time we got 3 2-meat plates and a pound of turkey.
The brisket was again dry and lacking flavor. It had no smoke ring and seemed as if it had been cooked in an oven. Pork ribs were decent. The turkey was good, but could’ve been juicier. This time I spent over $100 and I vowed to not go back. I was excited to have a BBQ place close to my house and I’ve had Smokey MO’s in other cities and am a fan of them….. I did notice that it seems this location doesn’t actually have a smoker and meat appeared to be in pans in an oven/ heater….. just not like other locations I’ve been to that pull brisket from a smoker and full wrapped briskets. I really wanted this place to be good. I literally was excited and anxiously waiting for 3 months once I knew they were...
Read morePreface: BBQ in Texas is held to a higher standard due to the abundance of BBQ restaurants.
Open seating and walk up ordering that resembles Mission BBQ (a chain bbq restaurant) Very clean inside and the guy working the counter was friendly, polite and helpful. I ordered the 3 meat plate with 2 sides. Brisket, ribs and regular sausage. My sides were cheese bacon potatoes and coleslaw. Sides: the slaw was pretty much standard, fresh and nothing crazy. Would please most anyone. The cheese bacon potatoes were low effort… quartered redskins with shredded cheese and crumbled bacon plus a few chopped green onions. (I feel it would have been better if they broiled them or somehow melted the cheese..
Meats: The sausage was lackluster and on the bland side. Good portion tho! The ribs were delicious and had a great texture and flavor. Also a good portion. The brisket was delicious as well, the end piece I got was gorgeous!!! Packed with flavor and smoke! Maybe a slightly smaller portion than the other ones.
I paid $28, which i think is...
