I'm giving this a 2 star for the calamari ONLY, since that was my meal. I didn't find anything exceptional about them, but here, like most Italian restaurants, the food is very good, but they are definitely overpriced. While the atmosphere and the service were very nice, if you are a fan of calamari rings ONLY, this place is NOT for you. This was the calamari arabiata appetizer and priced at $26. On the menu, it said, flash fried, tangy Italian cherry peppers (I requested not to have the cherry peppers. ) & D.O.P. San Marsano tomatoes, only to find out that it was more of a San Marsano sauce poured over it, which resulted in not so crispy calamari. It was served in 12 inch platter that had a slightly sunken 5-inch center, in which the calamari sat. Before I received my meal, I inquired if I could have rings only and was told by our server that there would be an up charge. You would think that for $26, they could accommodate me without an up charge for such a small portion. I opted NOT for the upcharge and was told then that they there would only be a few tentacles in it. To which I agreed, however, when I received the dish it didn't have just a few in it, it actually filled the entire bowl and the rings were weaved through it and on top, making it look initially like there weren't that many. However, it turned out to fill half of my portion with tentacles. How do I know that? I removed the tentacles from my dish and placed them in another dish so I could eat the rings. After that, I placed the tentacles back in the original bowl, and it filled the bowl.
The other 2 guests that I dined with had chicken involtini, arugula salad, and the Sunday gravy. I was told that the chicken involtini and the arugula salad were both very good, and so was the Sunday gravy. However, the Sunday gravy could have used more sauce, which was a bit scarce. Some people in New York and New Jersey refer to this as gravy. Gravy is made with meat drippings and oil or butter and flour, like you make for turkey. Italian sauce is made with cuts of beef, pork, tomato sauce, and other ingredients.
I have attached the current menu as of...

Read moreIt was our first time at EVO, and we loved everything about it. We were greeted by the hostess and seated immediately even though we were early. Once at the table we were asked what water we would like to drink, we chose pellegrino . Then our waiter Andrew came over and asked about our cocktail choice , when my wife wasn’t sure he said he would be back giving us time. No time during the evening were we rushed. We choose two appetizers, Nancy’s meatballs, and Eggplant stack. Both were excellent. Again Andrew gave us time to decide on our main course. My wife had the Orecchiete, and I had the Gnocchi. Both were excellent and served piping hot, which was great. We had the Italian cheesecake and since we’re celebrating our anniversary, it was served with a sparkler on top. One negative I would say is Imasked for an espresso with sambuca, a pet peeve of mine is that the sambuca should be brought out before the espresso. Since the sambuca will cool down the espresso if it’s delivered first it will get cool waiting for the sambuca. But setting that aside, I would recommend EVO and intend on going back , it’s...
