Our best friends back in Cincinnati are from Venezuela. They have cooked for us in their home and it was very good. We wanted that food again and on Friday night and we discovered Arepitas. If you want a home cooked meal in a restaurant setting, get in your car and drive to Round Rock for authentic Venezuelan cooking. You will not be disappointed. We asked our waiter Radames what he would recommend we try on our first visit and he steered us toward three dishes. We started with Shrimp Tostones, which featured green plantain chips stacked with mixed cabbage salad, white shredded cheese, avocado, cilantro and a special sauce. Topped with grilled shrimp. Fantastic mix of flavors. Nice and light. Next we tried one of the seven Arepas choices on the menu. Ours had shredded beef, black beans, sweet plantains and fresh cheese. We added more avocado. The portion size was very generous and again the mix of flavors was wonderful. To finish off the meal I would highly recommend the Cachapa Pernil. Another Venezuelan street food dish similar to Arepas. Holly Hollis, from the Atlantic Journal Constitution, helps us Americans understand the difference. "Similar in concept to the arepa, but very different in execution, cachapas are another Venezuelan street food based on a flat, pancake-like quick bread. While the cachapa also is gluten-free, it’s more like sweet cornbread, or a johnnycake, than an arepa, which is reminiscent of an English muffin." I agree with her description, and your tummy will thank you for trying it. The pork in the dish melts in your mouth mixing with the fresh cilantro, cheese and Venezuelan cream (nata). The "pancakes" were perfectly executed. These are just three of the choices on an extensive menu. Plus you can add on so many extras to create a flavor profile tailored to your own palate. Vegetarians will find many dishes to eat as well. There are native cocktails to pair with your meal and desserts if you still have room. Another great choice for the Austin area of authentic cuisine from outside our borders. Meals priced moderately. Service is excellent.

This place deserve 10 stars for food and service! We love exploring new food cultures and never had Venezuelan food. We got a recommendation from a Venezuelan young man we met at another restaurant to try this one, so we did and it was so worth it. We went there for lunch, and everything we ordered was delicious. It was great to know that they make everything from scratch with fresh, natural ingredients, and the food quality reflects that. The service quality matched the food quality and I can genuinely say that after eating in countless restaurants in the past several decades the service we got from Carlos was one of the best ever. Add to that the nice décor, authentic music, sparkling clean bathroom and convenient location (close to a HEB shopping center) and you got a winner place to go and enjoy a delicious, authentic meal. I highly recommend trying the desserts too, all were really good, and we each had a preference - for me it was the guava pie, for my son it was the passion fruit marquis, and for my husband it was the chocolate marquis. One thing I would like to recommend to improve is this: they use a QR code for menu that also asks for name and phone number just to see the menu. We asked for tangible menus and got them but they had no prices on them. To be fair, Carlos knew the menu and pricing fluently and he helped us with great patience. To make it easier on people like us I'd recommend to add the price on these menus. Update: Thank you for your explanation about the menu, I understand completely the situation and there is a simple solution I've seen in other restaurants which is printing a few small, simple paper menus. You won't need many since most people will be ok with the digital option, but for people from our generation it can be helpful. Thanks and all the best.

The food is very phenomenal here!! It was my first time eating Venezuelan food. Totally different experience from the traditional Tex-Mex and Mexican food restaurants around Texas. One nothing was spicy, the taste was a unique experience. So unique I want to go back to try the other entrees on the menu. I ordered the Parrillita from the crazy cravings and my wife ordered the LLanera from the arepas part of the menu. When they brought our food out, they were kind enough to tell my wife how to eat her dish properly. The portions of the food more than enough for two people honestly, but definitely order your own entree and share with your family or significant other. I ordered the top shelf margarita and had two of them I might say! They were so delicious and good they took the edge off for sure. The ambiance of this place looks very nice and upscale. It’s definitely a place to go on a date or eat with your family. My only complaint about my experience here is here was how loud it was in here. They could definitely use a white noise system to help with the noise level. It was hard to hear our waiter and waitress a few times when we were ordering and when they were checking on us. They do accept contactless payment; however during my experience I had to use it at their front register. My waitress did say there experience issues with their ordering devices. Overall, my experience was phenomenal here and I recommend it to anyone wanting to try something new for food.

This place was so good! I'm unfamiliar with Venezuelan food, and so I ended up trying a bunch of things, and literally everything was delicious. You won't be disappointed with tostones for an appetizer. All the toppings were so vibrant and fresh tasting, and that fried plantain, mmmm. If you crave something simpler but still crunchy and sharable, try the fried yuca. They're like tater tots, but more naturally flavorful. The cheese empanada is basically what would happen if a mozzarella stick and a calzone gave birth in South America. Fried cheesy goodness. I tried their blonde (chicken) arepa with avocado and cabbage added. SO. MUCH. FOOD. The thing is like a double-stuffed gordita. If you aren't a big eater, you will have filling left over. Massive in size and flavor. Saw a dude get dessert (a marquise, I think?). That thing was huge too. Venezuelans know how to feed people. The funny thing is, while I'm extremely full, the food isn't sitting heavy on me. I ate about as much as I would at a buffet, but I don't have that lingering post-buffet sickness, and I attribute that to the fresh ingredients and surprising lack of greasiness considering how many fried elements there were in everything I ordered. Every employee we interacted with was extremely friendly and helpful. They have a sign saying they're short-staffed, but we couldn't really tell. Great service all around.

I have to update. I was happy to get a call back from the owner. He was very friendly and sorry for the inconvenience. They did refund me but didn't get back to me. All in all, just them calling me back was all I wanted. It shows that they care about their customers and anyone who owns up to their mistakes gets 5 stars in my book. Thank you for making it right and making me feel unique and not just another customer. You truly have great food. That was never the argument. ‐------------- I went last week super excited as this was my first time. I ordered a beef cachapa and 2 arepas. I even tipped. I arrived at 11, I was the first order for the day and they gave me an estimate of 25 minutes. I said ok and decided to go to HEB while they made my food. I got back at 11:35 and the food was not ready. They said, their apologies but it would be ready in 10 minutes. 11:45 came and again they apologized and said 15 minutes. Noon came and then again they apologized, they said "we will comp your food, we're extremely sorry". I'm giving them 2 stars because I've waited a week and they did not keep their word. They kept my 50-60 dollars and I didn't get my food till 12:15. Noone should wait that long. As for the food, the hairy cachapa was good. But i should have ordered it just with cheese. The vegetarian arepa was close second.

I visited Arepitas in Round Rock with a group of friends who were eager to try Venezuelan cuisine for the first time. The server went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They were incredibly kind and patient, taking the time to guide us through the menu and explaining each dish in detail. We had the Cheese Cachapa, which was amazing. The corn pancake used for the Cachapa was made from real corn, adding an authentic touch to the dish. The portion size was generous, and it was filled with cheese. The combination of the sweet corn pancake and the savory cheese delightful contrast of flavors. Next, we tried the Hairy arepa, and it did not disappoint. This substantial arepa was generously filled with both cheese and beef, delivering a true Venezuelan flavor experience. The tender beef combined with the melted cheese created a mouthwatering combination that was both hearty and satisfying. Arepitas in Round Rock exceeded our expectations with its attentive and friendly service, combined with the delicious food, making for a memorable dining experience. Being from Venezuela, i've been looking for Venezuelan food here in ATX and im glad I finally found a great spot! Whether you're a fan of Venezuelan cuisine or looking to try it for the first time, this restaurant is a fantastic choice
