Decided to try them out. I asked the staff at the drive-thru if I could get a 12pc with thighs replacing the breasts. The young lady assured me that I could, and even provided the part breakdown: 6 thighs, 3 drums, and 3 wings. Great! I ordered fries and dirty rice for the sides, and cornbread for the bread.
Then came my first warning. When she read the order back to me she said greens and rice. I corrected her, and she said "oh, I'm sorry" and corrected the order. After waiting about 15min for the 2 cars ahead of me, I pay. Asked if she had corrected the sides, and I was assured that she had. Just over $39, which is slightly more than I'd pay at Popeyes, but no problem.
Get the order after waiting another 10min. As I'm waiting I notice that the clerk is going through a drawer that appears to be full of paper wrapped cornbread, picking them up, looking at them, putting some back for others... I would assume they should all be similar so it strikes me as very odd. I finally get my order and I pull off, since it's getting close to a 30min wait at this point.
I usually check my food right at the window instead of pulling off, but since we had discussed the specifics of my order 3 times at that point I thought I'd be fine. NOT! Guess what I received? A 12pc, with 3 thighs, 3 drums, 3 wings, and 3 soggy breasts (that nobody in my home likes to eat, hence my specific order). I also received dirty rice and, you guessed it, GREENS. I also question how old the cornbread is, as the piece I attempted to eat was cold, mushy yet crumbly, and tasted sour as if it was going bad. This also meant no side for my autistic son, who specifically wanted fries with his chicken and refused anything else. The chicken itself was fine (besides the breasts which were soggy and greasy). I'd rate it above average, seasoned well, and tastes like someone's grandma made it. In comparison to other chains I'd say they're better than Church's, but not as good as Popeyes, which is problematic since again they cost a little more. The sides, however, were definitely not even a 5/10. I didn't like either of them, and the dirty rice in particular was a sad experience.
All in all, if the order had been correct I'd probably still patronize them from time-to-time, just getting chicken only, to support a small, local business. Considering the entire experience, however, I'm just put-off. That cornbread shouldn't have been served at all. It shouldn't take that long. Confirming order contents multiple times to still get things completely wrong shows a lack of professionalism. Even Popeyes has never gotten that much wrong for me before, and they're notorious for that type of stuff, but their quality is consistent. With Frenchy's? I'm just not confident that I'll get what I ordered, will enjoy my food, or that something won't be inedible/spoiled. I unfortunately won't...
Read moreTake this review with a grain of salt (pun intended) because I am not a foodie. My wife is from Houston and I went here recently for her nostalgia. I ordered online.
Clean restaurant and staff were friendly. Service was fast. The surrounding area is a little sketchy, but less sketchy than 3rd Ward location (at least in the daytime when I went).
The chicken was ok. It was a good value for what you paid for. I didn't think it was "salty" like others have commented. And I'm a pale white guy that's allergic to heavy seasoning on food. If anything, I think the chicken was a little on the bland side. Fries were ok and I had a roll (can't screw up a roll).
If you are comparing the food to a place like Mastro's or Steak 48 then there's no comparison. But compared to other fast food types of restaurants the food is decent for the price. I think it's better than places like Timmy Chan's and I felt the chicken was real here (not like the baby arms at Church's).
If you really like chicken then I would recommend at least trying it here at least once.
4 star review from a finicky eater that doesn't really like chicken to begin with, so that lets you know they must be doing...
Read moreThe chicken tasted dry and bland. Nothing special.
Mash potatoes was disgusting. Tasted like it was mix 80/20 with powder and mostly water.
Fries was good. Cornbread made a bad first impression being smashed up, lightly mushy but tasted decent and not overly sweetened.
And I paid 20 bucks for 8 piece dark?
I don't know who started the band wagon but it needs to stop. Seriously guys.
You are hyping up their egos for nothing.
Kroger even sell better fried chicken than this place for more than half the price!!
Will be my last.
To put it in more perspective there are going to people say this place that place this that got the best chicken but in reality there is no magic sauce.
Its freakin fried chicken for sakes. You can you tube and make many tasty fried chickens to your own liking.
But the chicken it self does make a difference especially if its halal.
Don't believe the hype.
But if I had to choose a place if I didn't make my own and if I was craving when I'm out and about…it would be Gus and jolli bee with their spicy chickens.
And who can't forget about wing stop king of wings.
I don't think anybody would disagree on that. (for...
