Puffabelly's has been a favorite of mine for many years. I like the old school train depot atmosphere, which is what Old Town Spring is all about, and the prices are reasonable. I was glad to see that after the remodel, the food quality stayed the same. Traditional track-shack food is the fare here...burgers, spuds, sandwiches, chicken fried steak, fried green tomatoes, etc. All delicious. There are a few styling elements which clash a bit in my opinion- the drink cups are perfect...traditional red plastic as they should be, but the black stoneware plates, while beautiful, are out of place. The atmosphere calls for red plastic baskets with checkerboard wax paper liners, or if anything ceramic, ordinary white diner plates would fit the bill. The entryway is a bit odd- it kind of has this Perry's Steakhouse wine cellar thing going on with neon lights and cold, contemporary minimalism. It's almost like what happened to the extension of Wunsche Bros. after the rebuild...the original structure is just perfect, but then you have this strange Gen-Z austere contemporary thing going on in the periphery. I ordered the Firebox burger, and enjoyed it...although I probably won't do American cheese next time. That was on me. The patties were just the right size for a track shack burger. Not heavily seasoned, but that's what I want in a classic burger. It was just right. So I'd give this place a solid review, with only some preferential advice on the upgrades, considering the primary clientele that patronizes the old...
Read moreOverall, I don't recommend. For the price of two horrible drinks at Puffbelly's, I paid for lunch for three people at a much better restaurant earlier the same day.
Went on Saturday around 7:30. First, when we arrived we were told there was a wait, which is fine as places get busy but the way we were told by the staff member was strange. It seemed as if they didn't want us to stay. I thought it was my own imagination but then my date actually said right after, "I don't think they want us here."
We were seated some time later. About five or six minutes later a server came by to take our drink order. Cool. About ten minutes later, we get our drinks. I ordered a Long Island and can honestly say it was the worst one I ever had. (Once I was at a movie theater and was curious about how they made their drinks. I thought that was the worst one I ever had but found out different today)
Then we tried to order and found they didn't have some of the items on the menu. At this point we decided it wasn't for us and asked for the bill. Can honestly say that lunch today for three people was cheaper than two drinks here.
I will say, don't blame our waitress. It was clear she was overworked. She was friendly and nice but overall, I don't recommend this place. Others may love it, and I'm glad that they like it, but we won't be back and will tell others about...
Read moreI have been going here for a little over 6 years and I love the food. It's good ol southern cooking. I usually live their fried green tomatoes & my friend lives the fried pickles, sho we got the combination basket. My tomatoes the batter had not stuck as well but they were still very yummy. It came with approximately 10 fried green tomatoes and what looked like a whole jar of pickles. They have a daily special and fridays is fried fish, hushpuppies & frenchies. The plate was a very large portion that my friend I had lunch with, we talked about we could have split the order and maybe there would still have been some left overs. It is always great to see some of the same waitresses are still there as service is always great. Their area for parking was so full I had to park on the street. They tend to get busy I feel like they need a bigger parking lot they don't have quite enough toi accomodate everyone. However if your just walking around old town shotgun park at the other ends walk the stores on one side come to the end and eat st Puffabelly's than walk all the good food you ate on your way back up main street looking in the other stores on your way back...
