TL;DR: If you're going to eat here, make sure you go out of your way to have the refill policy clarified because that info will not be volunteered. Menu does not say anything about refills, staff did not disclose that they provide no refills on tea despite knowing we'd never been there before, and we ended up paying $12 for three bags of tea (worth 13 cents each at wholesale) alongside two 7oz coffee cups' worth of water.
I had hoped to be able to give a positive review because of the quality of the food and service. However, what would've been an overall positive experience was significantly marred by a lack of consideration and honesty on the part of the staff.
For context, we mentioned the fact that it was our first time there more than once, which means that they were aware of our unfamiliarity with their way of doing things. If you look at any of the pictures of the backside of the menu, you'll see that the drinks section is very small and understated, and the refill policy (or lack thereof) is nowhere to be found.
Having been unable to locate the item on the menu, my mom asked if they had hot tea available. Our waitress brought out a box with different tea flavors for her to choose from (she chose chamomile), and she my mom asked if she could have two bags, she was told she could. They brought out a coffee cup with hot water, a small teapot holding another cup's worth of water, and two bags of chamomile. After having had the first cup with both bags, my mom asked for another bag, which was promptly brought out.
At any point throughout our time there, knowing that we'd never been there before, our waitress could have informed us that they would charge a full $3.95 for each bag of tea. Since it was never mentioned, we were obviously surprised to find three charges for tea on the check at the end. At that point, we quickly double-checked the menu to see if we'd somehow missed a disclosure of this policy, but sure enough, no such disclosure was present.
To highlight how poor value this is, I looked up the pricing for the exact brand and variety of tea (Stash Chamomile Herbal), and the pricing per bag is about 27 cents at retail or 13 cents at wholesale. Even assuming that it costs two bucks to account for the water and the effort in serving, plus assuming the higher retail cost, they came away with at least $9.04 in profit, which would equal a 230% markup.
To put things in even more perspective, as much as I dislike making comparisons, I-45 Diner (another nearby breakfast joint I'm familiar with) also lists a $3.95 price for hot tea, but it's served in a large 16oz cup and includes two bags of tea at the same price.
It could be argued that we should've asked if refills were offered or not, but I believe it's utterly irresponsible at best or malicious at worst for a restaurant to neglect to disclose their refill policy either in writing or verbally so the customer can make an informed decision.
Ultimately, I'm forced to conclude that this is a case of deception by omission, and it ended up ruining what would have otherwise been a delightful...
Read moreI want first start off by saying if my review was based on the food alone or even the wait staff I have experienced over these last 7 years since I discovered this place it would DEFINITELY be five stars ... For the most part my husband or I would call in orders for pickup and maybe dine in every blue moon. Never had a problem with customer service nor our meals...
Today 11/4/2021 I called in my order as I have many times prior . (Pictures are from last week visit dine in and pick up, shows how OFTEN I patronize this place )After placing my order I was asked for my credit card number over the phone. ( I don't believe in giving my credit card number over the phone. I have founf written credit card numbers on the ground at places or even overheard a cashier repeat a customer credit card information back to them on the phone while I was around). I asked when did this start I have NEVER had to give that information over the phone... I THAN PROCEED to say just cancel I WILL COME IN TO PLACE MY ORDER . The cashier than informed me that she was just going to go ahead and place the order. Either way was fine with me. If your policy says you need the card number and I refuse I will just place my order in person.
My issue comes when I go to pick up the order . A lady I HAVE NEVER SEEN (usually an older lady is checking out ) was there and introduce her self as the owner assistant. She was EXTREMELY rude about the whole situation about me saying I did not want to give my card information out over the phone . She proceeds to tell me in a VERY rude manner about what their policy is and I informed her SEVERAL times that I did OFFER TO CANCEL THE OVER THE PHONE order AND COME IN AND PLACE AND PAY for THE ORDER. Her attitude and the way she talked to me and handled the situation was very UNPROFESSIONAL, especial coming from an owner or owner assistant. There is always a way to explain a policy with out attitudes and being Straight up RUDE. ESPECIALLY when I tried to follow the policy and their employee ALLOWED me to still place the order with nothing said but I will place it without your credit card information . NO , Her attitude DID NOT REFLECT the warm comfortable feeling you usually get while visiting here, BUT it did reflect how I felt as customer interacting with an OWNER or OWNER representative. Which changed my whole Outlook at this...
Read moreTucked into a random parking lot in Spring is the most unassuming breakfast place we’ve seen to date. Appropriately named ‘The Breakfast Place’, the restaurant is serving up delicious, filling, and cheap food. We have come here quite a few times when visiting family and always go out of our way to stop by. The setting is quant and cozy and the service is downright fantastic. Every time you enter you are greeted with a big smile and beaming attitude that make you feel like you’re a long lost family member or you just returned a wallet with a thousand bucks in it. The menu is pretty straightforward and standard with a few country breakfast options sprinkled in.
We ordered pretty quick and got our food before we even had a chance to get hungry. We got the country fried steak with eggs, white toast and hash browns plus an order of the big stack pancakes with bacon. The pancakes are good, better than chain breakfast spots, and the bacon is good as well. The country fried steak was delicious, although a bit tough in a few spots with a delicious country gravy on top. The toast, hash browns, and eggs were also good. We’ve ordered a lot of other dishes from here in the past but don’t have photos of them unfortunately, but they were certainly good enough to have us coming back. We ordered some coffee and in a testament to the service never made it past halfway drank, not once.
Look, the food here is pretty good. We see a lot of reviews here ragging on the food and let’s be very honest, if you’re coming here looking to find out the reason why your 7th grade boyfriend dumped you, you’re not gonna find it and you look pretty dumb for expecting to. This is a straight up mom and pop southern diner, a good one at that. The prices are cheap (or maybe we’re just from Austin), the service is good, and the workers truly seem to care. For the value it offers, alongside the food and service, we highly recommend stopping by The...
