The Draft 1488 — Restaurant in Texas

Went to The Draft 1488 today when they first opened at 11AM, wanted to try their crawfish and see what other items they offer since they are a sports bar and diner. From the start, the restaurant is very specious, plenty of seating, great sound system, plenty of T.V.s, very well designed shorts bar and diner.

The wait staff are very attentive and friendly, additionally the cook really cares about the food and makes sure everyone is satisfied. This is a really extra because I am sure in the evening when they are busier, it would be impossible for that level of attention.

We ended up getting 2 pounds of crawfish, which was perfect in the level of cooking and slightly seasoned, but they only give 1 corn and 2 potatoes when you pay extra to have them added, generally speaking, everyone else gives at least 2 corn and 4 potatoes as a compliment to the crawfish, so it was a little surprise to know they charge extra, plus they charge extra to add sausage and mushrooms, plus they do offer add on ravioli, but that turned out to just be a side dish.

I also ordered the meatloaf sandwich meal with onion rings, my fiance ordered the banh mi meal with fries, plus we ordered a side of cheese sticks.

Overall the meatloaf was good, just not as a sandwich, they gave me tater tots instead of onion rings, and then brought me a side of onion rings after I pointed out the mistake, but other than the mix up, the meal was good.

The banh mi sandwich was a expected and was good, the fries were nice and hot and salted.

The crawfish was a decent size, ranging from small to medium, which is expected for this time of year. Additionally they gave is a dipping butter for them plus crawfish seasoning on the side which was nice.

For the quality of the food, the quality of the restaurant and the quality of the staff, I easily give this a 5 star place to eat, if your in conroe and want a great sports bar that offers great food and entertainment, add this place to your list of...

Unfortunately had a bad experience here last night. My husband and I have been here several times and had decided to make this our new “place” to go and just sit at the bar to have a beer and talk. We love the food, beer selection and atmosphere. The service was a bit slow, but we didn’t mind because the people were friendly. Until last night. Understandably it was busy so of course it was going to take awhile for our food. But the server would stop by occasionally to check on us and then say “this isn’t my station.” My husband was there before me with a friend for crawfish. I met him and his friend left. When I came the server came and took our order. I ordered an entree and he ordered wings. After quite some time the server brought out my order only and hurriedly put it on the table. He never brought out the wings. My dinner was delicious, but my poor husband just sat there watching me eat. Our server never returned, so we finally flagged down another server and asked to speak with the manager. While waiting for the manager our server showed up finally and asked if we needed anything else while he cleared my plates (still no wings). My husband told him that he never brought him his wings so we did not need anything else. The server said “Oh, whatever!” The manager came to our table and we told him about the poor service. He said he would take care of us. Several minutes later the rude server showed up and literally threw our check at us!! He said something nasty to my husband and they exchanged a few words. Yes the manager only charged us for my dinner and our beer. He comped the crawfish my husband and his friend had earlier in the evening. But the manager never came back to our table. I have NEVER been spoken to or treated in this manner by a server at ANY restaurant.

This place has so much potential, however the service ruins the entire experience. Coming from the service industry, I understand wanting to have fun at work, based on my multiple experiences here, it seems like that’s the only reason why the staff shows up. The bartender is taking shots behind the bar with the customers, the “server” was more interested into talking to someone at the bar than checking her tables. At one point our server left with said bar guest randomly and was nowhere to be found, we couldn’t tab out because no one knew where she was. She comes strolling in with purse in hand and “ready” to continue “working”. The bartenders response was to then blame us for not coming to the bar to order when we had been at a table being served (poorly). The bartender did offer to let us go for free because she couldn’t reach our server, we declined, we just wanted to pay after waiting for over 30 minutes for a bottled beer. The staff does whatever they want, it’s not about the guests and ensuring everyone is having a good time. It’s incredibly unprofessional. With that being said, The Draft itself is huge, there’s plenty of room for seating, the pool tables are nice, the drinks are cheap, they have a nice patio, darts, and a modern jukebox. It’s never really crowded and the other regular patrons are really cool.
