Best Thai Restaurant that I've had in the Katy area so far! I can't wait to eat here again to try other dishes. The owner(s)/service team are so friendly, and everything is clearly made fresh.
We went here with family and each got a different dish. No photos, but here's my take on the items we ordered:
Krapow Kai Down with Crispy Pork - If this is your first time here, this is definitely the dish to get. It's very delicious, well prepared, and not something you see on all Thai restaurant menus. (UTK - if y'all could come up with a vegan version of this dish as well as the larb, we would LOVE it!)
Khao Soi with Chicken - the broth was rich and flavorful. Really strong version of this classic Thai noodle soup.
Pad Thai with Chicken - my family member ordered this as a Thai Hot and it did not disappoint! I felt it was on the sweet side for my liking, but definitely on par with other pad thai in the Houston area. Very fresh and tasty.
These last two dishes were for the vegetarians in the group. They were very accommodating and were able to exclude fish sauce, add tofu, etc. even though the menu didn't necessarily indicate it was an option. Not many restaurants allow this, so we are extra appreciative for that!
Red Curry, Vegetable (vegan) version - this red curry is hands down the best in Katy and Cypress. Perfect consistency, with a delicious array of vegetables included. I'm sure they would add Tofu if requested, too. Because this version excluded fish sauce, I do feel it would have benefitted from some more salt to drive the dish home, but that is a minor suggestion for this very, very good red curry.
Pad Kee Mao - the menu didn't include a vegetarian/vegan option for this dish, but they were happy to make a version for us. This came with a lot of tasty vegetables and well-cooked tofu! I think that the exclusion of fish sauce and the addition of vegetables (aka more moisture content and surface area) resulted in the dish lacking some flavor. Perhaps adding in extra soy sauce/salt/etc. or finding a vegan fish sauce/oyster sauce substitute would balance the dish as the chef/owners would intend.
Cheese Rolls - these were too good and seemed to be freshly made in house.
Money Bags - I forgot to try one of these, but they were a cute presentation and again seemed freshly made in house.
Thai Tea - many, many restaurants over-sweeten this drink for me. Theirs was an excellent balance that allowed the complex tea flavors to shine. I need to try their Lychee one next time!
Anyway, although I do have some suggestions for improvement, my family was overall very happy with our experience here and have already talked about coming back sooner than later. Thanks, Urban Thai Kitchen, for sharing your wonderful hospitality and the...
Read moreI have been dying to try this restaurant - after putting it off for so long, it was definitely worth the drive!
We ordered ahead of time and got the following: Cheese rolls x2, Pad ke mao - chicken, Tom Yum Shrimp, Pompano Fish with three flavor sauce, Papaya Salad, Money bags x2, Green curry with chicken, mango sticky rice, 2 gallons of green Thai tea - all this for such a great price and enough to feed 10 people! We brought it all the way back to the Heights and it was still warm/flavorful/not soggy.
I love spice but ordered all mild since we were doing family style. And I didn't even feel the need to add spice because of how delicious it was. (But going to try everything again with medium spice!)
My favorites of the night were the pompano fish, cheese rolls, pad ke mao and the mango sticky rice. They have daily specials so check out their facebook/instagram to see if there are new items or a good deal!
The service was also impeccable - they had all the food packed/ready by the time we got there. We saw that they were abiding all COVID19 guidelines. The people who worked there made us feel right at home. Just from visiting for those few minutes, the family behind the business have put their love and soul into these recipes, customer service, & the ambiance that...
Read moreAfter a few online searches, I came upon this fabulous joint. Nevertheless, it was my first time ordering here that too after finishing work. Since being a retired Flight Purser, I've had the opportunity to go to Thailand numerous times and that's why I am very picky about where I would eat thai food. I ordered around 5 dishes, which included Green curry chicken, Pad thai, basil fried rice, vegetable spring rolls and Tom Yum soup with prawns. The food was delicious and outstanding. Mine was a pick up order but once I entered the restaurant, it is such a cozy environment with perfect lighting. I also had the opportunity to meet Ms.Tina, she brought my food to the main counter. She is a very pleasant and friendly owner. We had a nice little chat and she told me that we can bring our own wine or beer as I told her that I would love to come to her restaurant with my family and friends. Amazing food, very decent portions and taste of real thai food. Thank you very much for such a nice experience, I will be back and this time would be looking forward to In-resturant...
