Through my life traveling around Texas, every small town worth it's salt was lucky enough to have a local eatery which was the heart of the town. The Colony Cafe is such a place. A happy face greets you when you enter the door. A stranger never walks in the door. If you know anyone in the neighborhood, you are likely to see them from time to time, Including the daily regulars. The food is great, especially the breakfasts. The service is excellent. A friendly place always glad to see you. Good food cooked well and served with a smile. I have been back to The Colony Cafe many times since the first visit. The owners and the staff are amazingly friendly and efficient. I'm a breakfast person, any time of day. I have also enjoyed their cheeseburger and chicken fried steak lunch, which is my favorite lunch. Theirs is excellent by the way. The steak is well made and large. The gravy is tasty. The sides are all good and you can have different options each time you eat. I don't think anyone would be disappointed. Today is my first visit to The Colony Cafe, but it will definitely not be my last...particularly since it is 3 minutes from my house. I'm 74 and I have been eating the same breakfast wherever I can get it. It's kind of my test whether a place qualifies as a keeper in my book. When I find a keeper, I do my best to frequent them and pass along their merits to others. The Colony Cafe is a keeper on several levels. First the food is exceptional. Two eggs over medium, bacon crisp, hash browns and biscuits and gravy is a thorough breakfast cooks test. Over medium requires eggs cooked with whites done (no raw or runny white) with yolk still bright and runny not overcooked, crisp bacon is an art of it's own as are good biscuits. Hash browns can be cooked many ways but done, browned on both sides and not burned is what is expected. And finally, the gravy should be creamy, smooth and seasoned, both good on it's own and improving whatever it is added to. The cook who meets all these requirements consistently can probably handle anything else on the menu with ease. Note to foodies, this order allows you to mitigate the damage if the cook misses the mark by letting you mix the bacon and hashbrowns to cover for the under or overcooked elements with the possible exception of extremely undercooked eggs. I plan to return to The Colony Cafe to try their other breakfast and non-breakfast combinations. If nothing else were right their exceptional service would buy a lot of forgiveness but in this case it only added to the joy of a good meal...
Read moretldr: This place is an absolute treasure. Classic southern food, attentive and friendly service, homey atmosphere. Frankly, I don't see a reason NOT to dine here. (Plus, great prices!)
Stumbled upon it with my husband while our car was getting looked at next door. They recommended this place to us with enthusiasm. Felt a little bad that we overstayed our welcome with our car getting looked at, but management was very patient with us (not expected, but seriously appreciated). We were impressed by the menu, easy to navigate, it wasn't too overwhelming but it was thorough enough to have something for everyone. We were super tempted to try the breakfast menu, but the time of day and our appetites lead us to the lunch menu. Needless to say, we will be coming back to try some of the crepes!!
We were served by Rodrigo, who was knowledgable, caring, and friendly. We weren't ready to order right away, but by the time we were ready he noticed immediately and took our order. He was extremely competent with the menu and made sure to double check on small things (i.e. the soup of the day) before potentially misleading us. Personally, the service always makes a huge difference to me and this exceeded my expectations.
Lastly, and most importantly, the food was wonderful! I got the grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad. They were able to get me some honey mustard dressing for my salad upon request. The sandwich was on some well-buttered toast and the chicken was well cooked. My husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of broccoli soup. He was very impressed with the buffalo chicken sandwich (which I think says a lot, since that's one of his go-to items anywhere).
The whole experience reminded me of one of this diner I used to visit with my dad as a kid! If you like southern style food, even if it's just a simple sandwich, this is definitely the...
Read moreFrom the moment we stepped into The Colony Cafe for breakfast, we were treated like lifelong customers. The staff were incredibly welcoming, creating an environment that truly felt like a cozy, family diner. Despite this being our first visit, we experienced a sense of familiarity, thanks to the warm and friendly vibes from everyone present.
One of the highlights of our visit was the exceptional quality of the food. Everything we ordered came out promptly and was delicious. Whether it was the pancakes that the kids devoured with glee, or the heartwarming coffee that my wife and I savored, every bite was a testament to the thoughtful preparation behind each dish.
Another delightful aspect of our visit was the affordability of our meal. In an era where dining out can often burn a hole in your pocket, it was refreshing to find a place that serves great food at such reasonable prices. It certainly added to the overall positive experience we had.
Overall, The Colony Cafe offered us more than just a breakfast; it provided a heartwarming dining experience that we all greatly appreciated. We left with our stomachs full, our spirits high, and a strong desire to return soon. Anyone looking for a friendly and affordable dining experience would be well-advised to pay The Colony...
