S & S Grill — Restaurant in Thomasville

Located in the middle of downtown Thomasville, a place that may carry you back to halcyon days of decades ago, the S & S Grill is WELL worth a visit. They hand patty their burgers, and mine was served hot and tasted delicious. The crinkle fries were perfect, and the sweet tea was outstanding—truly southern sweet tea. The place was abuzz with activity and had only one server, but she was kind, prompt, and attentive. Interesting seating arrangement—an L shape where you are looking across at other patrons—but it adds a uniquely homey touch. I did get to observe from this vantage point that some of the burgers, such as all-the-way or the pimiento cheese burger can be a bit messy. But I think that may be part of the fun. Wow! What a great little sandwich shop. Service is fast. Fast is good and you're right across the bar from other regular local patrons. Fellowship is great. Wish I could give them six stars. Not a place to go for Ambience, but a place to go for down-home fresh cooked, quickly served breakfast or lunch! Each sandwich is custom-made to your order. You get what you want, there. But pretty much sandwiches and salads only. Not a full menu. But by focusing on hamburgers and hotdogs and chicken sandwiches & grilled menu items, instead of offering everything, they really do the reduced selection right!!! They also offer some nice seasonal and occasional choices. Soups on cool weather and special egg and chicken salads on certain days are examples! They also offer some real nice homemade desserts. Not fancy but the folks are nice. Its like a little step back in time. I love local places and they ususally have the best food. Chatted with the lady beside me also very nice. Its that kind of place. Hamburger steak plate was excellent. I opted for double salad in lieu of slaw and fries. The hamburger steak had american cheese and sauteed onions in it. How have i never thought of that? The salad was simple but the cheddar cheese was a flavorful addition and the ranch dressing was homeade so it too was flavorful.
