We have dinned at Cross Ties 4 times & every time it has gotten worse. The 1st time we went the service was good (not stellar) & food was ok. The second time service was again good & food ok. The last 2 times though were just terrible. We went in Friday 1/14 & waited for 20 minutes to get a table. The Hostess never wrote down my name but did with other people. We had to keep tract of our place in line to not get sat after people who came in after us. Once sat it did take a while to have a server approach us. We ordered a couple of drinks, spinach artichoke dip, a chicken sandwich with house made chips (crispy) & a peppercorn filet mid-rare with 2 sides. The spin dip was ok but the pita chips that came with it were hard & old. When the main course came out the chips were not crispy at all & the filet was grossly over cooked, well done & no were near mid-rare. The chips were sent back along with the filet. The server double checked to see if she had put in the correct steak temp & "said" she did. This is where things took a turn for the worse. I understand there were three large tables in the restaurant at this point but, after sending back the filet & the chips my wife finished her sandwich & I finished my sides. Waiting almost a half hour (27 minutes to be exact) we still had no steak or chips. We inquired about the steak 2-3 times being told the 3rd time we had to wait until the large parties were served before I could get my steak. Finally we decided to cancel the steak & then inquired about the chips. In my opinion these were forgotten about. The server did then bring the chips out & again they were not crispy. The server could see that we were not happy about our visit & blamed the kitchen & begged us to return & ask for her. After 1 week we decided to give the place another try. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE! Once again we had to wait (about a half hour again) & keep track of the wait list. Good thing we did because the same hostess as last time tried to seat people that came in after us before us. When seated we ordered fried green tomatoes a couple of adult beverages. I once again ordered the peppercorn filter mid-rare & my wife ordered a burger. The tomatoes never showed up. The steak once again was over cooked & the burger did not come out with the aioli that the menu stated it came with. After some time (more than half the food was consumed) the server, who did not deliver the food, finally came back to check on us. We asked about the tomatoes & was asked if we wanted them or if we wanted them taken off the bill. We said take them off the bill. I don't believe they were ever ordered. When finished & getting the bill there were extra charges for aioli, which was supposed to come with the burger & honey mustard that we never received. Asking the server about this she said the burger does not come with the aioli & that is why the charge was there. Taking a menu off the table next to us it clearly stated that the burger did come with the aioli. Needless to say, we are very unhappy with the last 2 visits to Cross Ties. I would not recommend this place & I truly do not believe we will visit here again. I hope they get their act together because Thomasville really does need a restaurant like this. Just a very sad...
Read moreIt was good. Way better than the previous place in my opinion and the service was miles better. There were a couple misses that made it not great but let me start with the good: the Bulogi burger was something I never in a million years would have believed I would ever see on a Tville menu. Ever!!! I grew up here and fine dining in this town has always been sorely lacking. It's not a foodie town. You had to go to Winston or Gboro for that. But my burger was completely on point. The Korean Bulogi burger tasted like the Korean dish. It would not seem to work but it did. I wanted it medium rare but they could only cook med [that whole state law that you get in select restaurants]. They mentioned on menu that there would be sriracha aioli for dipping but it was not there Tomato pie [a carryover from the Southern Sister days I believe] was my side. It was tasty yet not warm enough in temp. My dining partner got the stuffed flounder with mashed potatoes and collards. She said something was too salty so I gave it a try. The fish and sauce were perfect but she was right the stuffing was too salty. Potatoes [she said] needed to be warmer. She loved the collards. We got there early on a Friday. Dining room was cold. If I think a place is cold it is because I hate too warm restaurants. Our server was Justin and he was nice, personable, knew the menu [had actually eaten there menu] and was helpful in selections. Few tweaks and this place could be top notch and I would...
Read moreAte there with the family yesterday. Overall, food & atmosphere was good, with an exception. Items ordered were bulgogi tacos, chicken & waffles, Choo Choo shrimp, fried green tomatoes, shrimp & grits. All was good, except for shrimp & grits - which was shrimp over grits with a watery sauce poured over it, so that it was more of a shrimp & grits soup. Flavor was not great - I'd avoid it. Our waitress was friendly, but slack. Someone brought our 2 appetizers to the table, but no one provided small plates for us. I kept looking for the waitress, but she was nowhere to be found. I finally got up & went over to the shelves by the coffee pot & got plates myself so we could eat. Later, after we had finished our meal, the waitress asked if we wanted dessert. We pleasantly told her ,"No", and that we were finished. She cleared plates & disappeared again, not bringing our check. About 10 minutes later, she finally came back, and we told here we needed the check so we could leave. She asked "Did I already ask if you wanted dessert?" .......Yes! & No. we don't need dessert. We need our check. Finally got the check & paid. A basic rule of waiting tables: When the diners say they don't need anything else, and are finished, hit them with the check ASAP! Don't keep...
