Red's Sports Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Thornapple Township

Just moved in town was trying it out for our Valentine's Day dinner. Let me just start 15 minutes of waiting (at least) to be asked what we wanted to drink. We put in a drink order (both waters) and appetizer (jalapeño poppers) as time went by we were wondering what was going on. We wait another 10 minutes or so then we are asked what we would like to eat. We originally wanted to order a steak dinner and their rattle snake fettuccine. They ended up not having the steak off hand the waiter said. So I ended up picking the Valentine's Day steak deal, after we put that order in 15 minutes later the waitress comes back out saying they are out of the pasta sauce for what we ordered. So we ended up just ordering the Valentine's Day deal with the 2 steaks both medium well. I'd say about 20 or so minutes then here comes our steaks and we notice we never got our side salad, our other potato side, nor did we ever get our appetizer. Next thing you know we are cutting up our steaks and they are both raw. Sent back and they come back out raw again, this time we said they are raw what is going on? Third time come back both well done, we were hungry wanted to get going so just ate a couple bites of everything as best we could having to eat around the absolutely burnt jalapeño poppers. I was so excited to try this place but never did I ever expect this. Probably one of my most horrible experiences eating out. This will be a very hard decision whether I will come back or not, and very disappointing.. I'd rather say zero star because the only thing good was our ice waters and there's like little to possible water to mess those up. NO exaggeration, this was an absolute horrible experience. In the end we did still leave a great tip though...

We stopped in here to grab a bite and a quick drink. This establishment seems to be fairly popular with the locals. The interior of the bar is a classic small town bar atmosphere. There are plenty of tables and chairs in the establishment to accommodate for even the largest of groups. The bar is typical horseshoe shaped bar that has plenty of seating.

We bellied up to the bar and got two tall beers and ordered a burger and fish sandwich. The total for the order was a few pennies under $30.

The fish sandwich is one of the best I’ve ever had. The bun was soft, and the fish inside was cooked very well and battered lightly. I would highly recommend this if you like fish sandwiches. The french fries that came in the basket were also really crispy and tasty.

The hamburger looked good however, I did not taste it, so I cannot give any type of personal feelings.

The bartender who served our food and drinks was very pleasant, and she was new to the establishment. She definitely made the experience so much more pleasant.

The only down side was when the cook came out and a customer asked what he was up to and he replied “Hate Crimes” then laughed. Really?!

Again, one person’s rude comment doesn’t warrant this entire place being rated down. Thus it’s not a 5...

We attended a class reunion on Saturday evening. We were initially told we would have the whole bar closed to the public, we were told day of we would only have the dinning room side. The owner also told us he would have the staff needed to accommodate at least 100 people. We were packed on one side of the restaurant with 2 waitresses, 1 bartender for the whole bar (the bar side was packed with customers as well), and someone who was taking drink orders at a table but it cause more confusion than anything. One of the waitresses from the start was beyond rude to over half the guest at this reunion, the other waitress we had worked so hard to compensate for the rude waitress and make up for the lack of staff. One table timed how long it took to get the drinks they ordered, it was 38 MINUTES from the time they ordered until they got the drinks. It was very disappointing for the amount of time and effort that was put into this reunion for the owner of this bar to not have the proper staff needed, went back on shutting the bar down to the public and never once apologizing for the mess that this all caused. We haven't been to this establishment since March after another unfortunate experience and I highly doubt we will be back...
