As one with an English heritage, I've had an enjoyable experience dining at several locations in and near San Fernando Valley. To discover the Crown & Anchor was to finally be satisfied with the fact that a favourite dish: toad in the hole, was available on the menu. It's been years since tasting good Yorkshire pudding with bangers in a hot onion gravy sauce, and the results were most satisfying, taking me back to the U.K., among other fine English fare that my two companions thoroughly enjoyed, as well. Good form to include the English breakfast available all day, with the obligatory beans on toast, among other simple fare, while the bangers & mash always appealed well for its simplistic, but very satisfying results. Our servers were gracious and prompt about the service provided, and thorough in maintaining safety and health regulations per pandemic circumstances, but the establishment offered plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoors, with proper safety guidelines followed by everyone. The interior itself is a beauty unto the British scene with wonderful seating arranged in half-circled booths of vinyl-like upholstery that provide space for 4-5 persons, with a quieter, large chamber, and the pub to another room with plenty of sports monitors for those who enjoyed a noisier social scene, and an open expanse outside, with a tented arrangement for when crowds become too large. All in all, the Crown & Anchor has done well to provide a pleasant experience in food, decor, and general service. I wish it the best of success and prosperity, with thanks to the staff who provided for us, and satisfaction for everyone who dines at this beautiful British...
Read moreThe food was amazing! My friend had Bangers and Mash, which is sausage balls, and and a hard-boiled egg. It was really good, very tasty. We both had Fish & Chips. The pieces of fish are very large and fulfilling. The fries were ok. I had asked for mine to be "crispy", but they weren't. The fish came with house-made tartar sauce. 2 Giant Coke Cola glasses filled with iced tea. I also had a Bavarian Pretzel with spicy cheese. It was very good. There was tons of food, for great price points. We did not have room for dessert. We will have to go back. The dinning area was homey and comfy. Big booths, and tables. There was an outside seating area, and a bar. Free parking. The restroom was a little dated looking, and clean, very suitable. The staff were friendly, and extremely helpful. I gave the food 4 stars because the fries were not to our liking, otherwise I would have given 5 stars. The service definitely rated 5 stars. They have a full bar, not just beer and wine. We didn't see any patrons with young children, and we did not notice if there were high chairs for little people. You may want to call the restaurant if you are thinking of bringing young children. If you like British food, this is the place to come. You'll be happy to eat here at the...
Read moreWe don't frequent Thousand Oaks at all but as we were in the area we searched for pub food -- one of our often go-to lunch restaurant types -- and this place came right up with solid reviews so we gave it a go.
It was a bit hard to find at first being tucked away in the shopping center but there was plenty of parking available. Walking in through the patio, we were immediately greeted by the friendly staff and they let us sit wherever. The motif was, of course, British and it was showing a bit of age but still things were clean in the dining area and ample room between tables.
We started with the pretzel which was delicious! Big and well cooked and very fresh. Don't forget the Colemans!!!
We then tried the Veg Curry, the King Fish and Chips, and Toad in the Hole. All three were fantastic! Piping hot, good veg in the curry, yummy gravy on the toad in the hole, and fish had just the right amount of batter without being overly greasy. The chips were great too although a slight too much on the crispy side.
Beer selection was a combo of British and American/local fair with plenty on tap.
Staff was attentive and polite as well.
So overall it was a lovely experience and I'd definitely recommend taking a visit for anyone...
