This has got to be one of the best ice creams I've ever tasted... And I'm an ice cream snob. Afters, Salt & Straw, Jeni's, Wanderlust - those are my go-to's.
I love unique flavors - balsamic and goat cheese? Olive oil? Jalapeno chocolate? Say no more, I'm there.
Little Calf's ice creams are thick yet light (fluffy? But not too airy). Love this texture more than any other ice cream shop's. Second, it's not too sweet. Third, they pack it on! I felt given the amount of ice cream, it was a good price point. It was so good that after I bought a cup to eat in the store, I bought 4 more points to take home (!!).
So far I've found their dairy free flavors to be more satisfying to my palette than their regular flavors. I had the Moorpark Road but I wish there was more stuff inside like Rocky Road. It also got a little monotonous at the end, but the chocolate had a depth to it that was excellent.
I loved the soursop flavor and it's not usually something I see, so I had to snatch up a few pints of that one as it's seasonal. The lemon basil, while quite tart, is very refreshing so I also got a pint of that for a hot day.
The girl at the counter is super lovely and I was able to sample all that I wanted.
Even though I'm in OC, I would make a day trip and drive out here to buy more pints! It would depend on what seasonal flavors they have next but I hope it's either fruit based or...
Read moreHands down one of the worst ice cream parlors I’ve ever been to. The lady at the counter is really nice! Nothing wrong with the service. It’s just that I spent $5.50 on a single scoop of the worst ice cream I have ever had in my life. Took it to go. Went into my car. Took a bite. Got out of my car, and walked back in just to throw the whole thing away. I felt bad at first because I wasted food and a to go container and a plastic spoon… but the blame should be on whoever made inedible ice cream. Horrible.
Edit: As you can see by their response, they wished I had let them know and try a new flavour. The reason why I didn’t was because what made the ice cream I got so gross was the artificial flavour it had. At least, that’s how it tasted. It was as if someone dropped the whole bottle of flavouring into the batch. The flavour stung so bad, it was stuck in my mouth for 30 minutes. Secondly, it was like it was cut with water….or defrosted and refrozen. It was weird. Being that it was my first time, I wasn’t going to risk getting another ice cream because who knows?! Either quality is all over the place and you don’t know what you’re going to get…or I just got a bad batch. My recommendation is that you ask for a sample before you get a whole scoop,...
Read moreIf you have not tried Little Calf Creamery's ice cream you DEFINITELY need to! They make their own ice cream right in their shop, and it is DELICIOUS! We just had the owner, Scott, cater a party we threw for 70 people. He brought his mobile ice cream cart and served ice cream sundaes to all of our guests. We got to choose 4 different flavors to offer, along with a variety of toppings, as well as hot fudge, hot caramel and whipped cream. All of our guests were raving about how good it was. They said it was the best ice cream they have ever had! It has the perfect balance of creaminess and sweetness. My favorite is the Milk and Cookies, but honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the flavors! We will definitely be heading back to the shop soon to try the new seasonal flavors, and will definitely be bringing Scott back to cater...
