I have to say that If a rating on food was the only thing that was important, I would give them 10 stars. We have eaten there plenty of times and never disappointed. I just tried their steak sandwich, paid $19 and felt this should have been priced around $30. This last week, I went to Amici and had a $12 Italian sub that was more lettuce and dressing than sandwich. literally covered in mustard and mayo, had to scope it off. Went here and had a steak sandwich that was ALL meat and a plate full of fresh fries for around $19. Its a shame this place was empty as it has a lot of potential. However, my only issue was the wait. We waited for 15 min before anyone approached us, over 30 min for our food and the restaurant was empty. I understand how hard it is to be in business, especially here in Newbury Park. However, I drive by Cedros every night and that small restaurant is packed, Alamo packed, Sumo packed, Holdren's packed. This place has Great potential but their service really needs help. Waiting 15 min to be served, an additional 30 min for our food, not seeing your server for the whole time is even worse, the restaurant only had one other table and I know they were waiting as long as we did. We really enjoy the food they serve, their friendly approach and the owners personal service. However, there is NO reason for this place to be a ghost town, I hope they figure this out, I would hate to see a really good restaurant go out of business, not because of their food but...
Read moreWanted to give Mikey's another shot today after reading more 5-star reviews. With only a handful of patrons in before 9a, I thought we would get better service. We did get a quicker introduction with our menus compared to last time, but one of the menus was filthy dirty. See the picture...Not the greatest 2nd impression of Mikey's.
We asked for coffee and a latte. Latte machine was temporarily down so we get 2 coffees. Ok. I immediately asked for some 1/2 and 1/2 but waited close to 10 minutes before standing up and asking some. Someone else brought it right away and our waitress apologized for forgetting.
Once Latte machine was fixed, we got a latte after all. That tasted good.
Food was good too but took some time to receive. We had some pancakes and an egg white omelette.
This visit was ok. Not sure we will give this place another shot.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: Mikey’s took over as the replacement of The Nook in Newbury Park. Service is not as fast as before. Took a long wait just to be greeted and bring us our menu. Multiple tables open but many were not clean.
Tried their Chilaquiles. Like the crunchy tortillas but lacks spicy flavor. It’s definitely the American version of Chilaquiles but it...
Read moreI went here a couple of weeks ago with my family. The food was amazing, the soup of the day was French Onion and it was done superb. I had the steak and it was done perfectly and one of the best I've had outside of a steak house.
For dessert we split a crepe which was delicious as well.
Service was fantastic as well, very attentive, and it's the owners working there and doing the cooking and even the serving. They take pride in what they do and it shows and you can taste it too!
Now for the negatives. We made the mistake of going on a Friday. They have a band on Friday but because of the layout of the restaurant the band makes it very difficult to have a conversation, even in the back of the restaurant in the furthest spot from the band.
Aside from that, the restaurant's atmosphere is similar to a deli. The quality of the food (and to some extent the price... $15 for pancakes, $50 for steak) do feel out of place here and would be more at home in a fancier restaurant.
I came back two weeks later for breakfast and had their strawberry banana pancakes. Fantastic! About $15 for a stack of three, but loaded with fruit and slivered almonds. Fantastic...
