Meats for tacos were dried out (birra, carnitas, lengua) with the exception of the shrimp and fish. Maybe an off day? Who knows? Salsa was ok. OK but not great, a bit one dimensional in flavour. Meats need more seasoning (salt, spices) and fat. Balance was not there, just dry stringy meat. They were dry and gristly. Carnitas are usually simmered in lard on low low heat. They should never taste dried out. I did appreciate they make their tortillas from scratch and to order, however I would like to get two for each taco like "old world" places do. 😁 But with dry meat that was less of an issue. I have eaten all over Mexico from border towns like Tijuana, to Puebla, Mexico City, and the Yucatan. I'm more than familiar with taqueria's and Mexican food in general from all over the country. From spending time learning "old world" recipes from Aunties like roasting and grinding spices from scratch in a molacete for mole pueblano to making Chili en Nogada in Puebla, to stewing different meats in giant cazuelas till TENDER. In In fact one of my best friends currently has the top rated restaurant in the country and I consulted for him before the soft opening. Even Enrique with all the accolades he has takes feedback constructively and non defensively.
I have also had better tacos stateside in Portland, Las Vegas, Seattle, Vancouver, and even Denver. Perhaps you have a captive audience who cannot get better where your located in Tillamook?
I have seen from previous reviews this owner, rather than address the issues or feedback faced or given by CUSTOMERS (who pay the bills) gets defensive and doesn't address the issues or makes excuses. He seems to be pedantic in addressing unrelated things like spelling or grammar when he knows full well what people mean and understands the gist of their reviews. Part of running a successful business is taking criticism constructively and using it to your advantage.
Believe me we all champion small family owned restaurants over chains and expense account places. I really hope you take this review to heart and reflect on what I'm saying. Having an ego is one thing but do address issues when they...
Read moreFirst time visitor, looking for breakfast last Sunday morning on the way back to Portland. While the place may look a bit worn, it was clean and well cared for. The friendly person who took our order wasn’t wearing a mask when we approached, but then put it on. We ordered a sausage and a bacon breakfast burrito. When we were called to get our order at the window the mask was off again. I feel like it’s important for restaurant employees to be wearing a mask at all times. The burritos were delicious! Red sauce has a lot of heat! The green sauce was divine. Sadly, I had to stop eating my burrito as soon as I discovered they were beans in it. Beans cause me severe gastrointestinal problems. I feel like maybe it’s my fault for not asking if there were beans in it? I’ve just never had a breakfast burrito that had beans. I can’t fault the restaurant for that. The burritos were awesome and my husband was more than happy...
Read moreIt was okay, we happened to be in Tillamook and we were hungry. We wanted to try another place but they were unfortunately closed so we went here. I was not very impressed with the food. As a Mexican, I've had worse but of course I've also had much better! I wouldn't go here again. The combo i ordered was supposed to come with tortillas hechas a mano, they were just regular tortillas. The meat was not all that bad, but definetley not authentic food. . The horchata was not that great either. The lady wasn't very approachable or friendly like I would've hoped. I saw them putting enchiladas in the microwave also, so I'm not sure what that's about. I personally would not go back and I do not...
